What a beautiful way to bring awareness to our world. The few folks I have known with Down Syndrome have always had the sunniest outlooks. We could all learn something from their courage and determination. Wonderful job all around (flow, solid rhyming & subject/tone). Thanks for the post!

She's a beautiful young lady, Rodger. And she sounds quite accomplished as well, especially for being just 30 years young. Oh, to be 30 again...

I couldn't agree more with your heartfelt, genuine and sincere ode to your dear daughter, Amanda.

Below is a picture of my best buddy in the world who happens to be in love with the young lady in the photo. That beautiful young lady is my daughter, Chelsea, and Orlin, my little friend I mentioned moments ago, is standing next to her (as he usually is whenever she is in near proximity, LOL).

Many people are far too hasty to cast aspersions and make judgements about subjects they have absolutely no knowledge of. Not only is Orlin far more intelligent than I, he can outrun, out laugh, and outlast me in an all-night horror movie marathon, which he and I have attended several times (complete with buttered popcorn and al the trimmings!) at our home. His favorite film, the 1933 classic version of Frankenstein. We both cry when the monster tosses the poor little girl with the flowers into the water, and she drowns.

We wouldn't what it any other way.

A fabulous tribute to your daughter, and perhaps a bit of enlightenment to those not all too familiar with Down Syndrome. And your title, sheer brilliance.

Bravo, Rodger!

    Hi Dean!
Thank you for your wonderful words and for sharing your family photo and story with me! Orlin is a very smart boy to stay by Chelseas's side, and so cute too. I just can't help but smile every time I see a person with Downs. My daughter has added so much to my life, I am so blessed and so are you my friend. I used to coach Special Olympics Golf and have had the pleasure of spending time with many of the athletes. What a joy and a privilege to be around them. I've written many poems about Amanda and I suspect this will not be the last lol. Frankenstein Is one of my favorite classical flicks. My daughter's into Disney movies and would probably be scared by Frankenstein lol Thanks again for sharing!

All the best to you and your special guy (and Chelsea too!)

    :) Rodger

You are very welcome, my friend. She's a beautiful young lady and I don't blame you a bit for writing lots of poems to her.

Have a wonderful week, my friend. :} ~Dean

Thank you for sharing your tribute to Amanda and Down/Langdon's Syndrome Day. Your daughter is wise--I don' run for fear of falling either! And, yes, her smile is contagious. I enjoyed your alternating rhymes in these heartwarming quatrains. Cheers- Joan

A picture of innocence and grace!
This is a beautiful tribute to your daughter, and a wonderful
commentary on love and seeing beyond the visible.
Thank you for teaching me more about Downs Syndrome. I never knew
why it was called Downs.
Very best wishes to you and your fortunate daughter.

Rodger, Congratulations to your daughter for her talents and her abilities. She sounds like an amazing young woman. However, it is apparent to me and I'm sure to many many others, that you are a wonderful parent and one of the main reasons that she is so successful at life. I applaud you for the love and support that you have and give to your daughter. The world needs more people like you. Carole

Expressions from the heart far out weigh any rules of writing. You have, however, succeeded in both. I feel your love for your daughter, for her light and her spirit. I am humbled by your unconditional love, not because of her condition, but because you are her father and she your daughter.

Hello Donovan, I'm glad you enjoyed my poem about the real beauty in life that I see through my daughter. I'll share with you that Amanda is my step-daughter... but in my mind it does not matter even one tiny bit, she will always be my daughter. I am truly blessed and I appreciate your kind words in reviewing my poem.

    All the best, Rodger

You skillfully made a tricky use of words here and your description of your daughter remind me of individuals I worked with for years. I was an advocate. Such love and pureness of heart...teachers of unconditional love, without a doubt.

Your story about your daughter and her Down-Syndrome encouraged me to look at is nature, treatments and risks in Wikipedia. I knew little except for what I observed from the appearance. With all the possible outcomes, I wish the best for her health, abilities, care, and nature and love from you, her siblings and friends. I don't have a six to give you and for that I am very sorry. The poem is excellent in poetics.

Hi Alan, Your research is accurate as many who are born with DS have other health problems. My daughter had heart problems at birth which have been repaired the best that modern medicine can do today. including a pacemaker and artificial heart valve. Many individuals have some sort of ongoing medical issue that will most likely shorten their life span. She lost a close friend several years ago to leukemia. But she certainly squeezes as much life out of each day that she can! Always on the go and always wants to do something for someone else. Thank you for you kind words. No need to be sorry about the extra star, I already have one in my daughter :) I appreciate your review!
    All the best, Rodger
