So beautiful on so many levels! The imagery, the subtle symbolism, the air of mystic magnificence, the contrast of big and small! Thank you for enriching the community with this poem!

Silver Lining
I somehow missed this free-verse tribute to Brooke--I must have been traveling--but I'm glad I read it today and was reminded to send her more positive thoughts. My mother was diagnosed late in life with MS and lived with the disease for 25 more years, passing away at age 84. I relished your "oyster" image and fervently hope she finds a satisfying "silver lining". Warm regards- Joan

Well .... surprise! I wasn't expecting any reviews so didn't check for a while.

Thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes. I remember your mum suffered with MS, so I imagine you will understand what Brooke is going through. A horror of a disease. Thanks for your words about the oyster, I always loved Brooke's nom de plume.
She is a remarkable woman, I hope she will be happier when she has access to a computer. Thank you for searching back for this and reading for the princely sum of 2 cents. :)

I just wrote a huge review on a long four verse poem. Very proud of it ... I was just moving to copy incase it didn't save and poof off into the never-never. I'm heartbroken. I will have to do the long ones on Word so I can save as I go. I wish we could do that on the FS review space. I've had to re-write so many lately. Grrrr!!!!!

Thanks once again my dear friend. Huge hugs - Lovi xoxo

reply by Joan E. on 19-Jul-2015
Oh, no--then you must use word. And write to Tom about making it easier. I salute your dedication, plus I am pleased you paid tribute to Brooke and remembered my mom's struggle with the wretched disease. Hugs within hugs- Joan

I just did it again ... I'll have to write myself a note to remember to use Word. Such a pain. I will write to Tom, good thinking 99. Huge hugs - Lovi xoxo

reply by Joan E. on 20-Jul-2015
No, not again--write Tom immediately! There's got to be a remedy other than Word. Fingers crossed- Joan

For Our Ms. Brooke
Your words are so true. Brooke sees poetry in even the smallest things and offers rays of sunshine with her words. I was shocked and very sad to hear of her struggle with ms.

Your poem is presented as Brooke would present her thought(s), with flawless rhyming and rhythm. And I believe the rondo was a favorite form of hers. You speak of blue skies and sunshine, warmth and happiness and her upbeat point of view.

This is an exceptional tribute in poetic form, Rose.

Blessings to you, Linda

Thank you for stopping in to my portfolio, Linda. Much appreciated. You're right - Brooke enjoys the Rondeau and has written some wonderful examples.
She is the very definition of an optimist. She's always cheery and bright, so I thought I would write something that matches that personality. Thanks too for the awarding of a sixth star. That really brightened my day!
    Rose.

ONLY A BOY (she said) Adewpearl
What a wonderfully unique and heart-full tribute, my friend. Beautifully voiced, for sure. I am certain she loved it! And I hope Sawyer will relate to it too, one day!

This line is so sweet:

She'll sleep today in the arms of hope

and this one too:

''I'm here by your side, though only a boy''

And these are my favorite:

Her summers, bold, predominantly gold
Now winters scold; so callously cold

note one spag suggestion:
She spoke, yesterday, of dandelion seeds
He laughed(,) today(,) pit-pattering in weeds

Cute:
Balderdash and Gobbledygook, one of a kind
His heart speaks gently to creations of her mind

Potent, memorable and remarkable lines:

Goodbyes are wingless without reasons to fly
And sentinels of love will not let pass

and:
His tears represent her reasons to try

Beautiful and pitch perfect closing:

Whisper then wishes in contexts of Joy
His arms will carry, though only a boy

Loved this. Glad I stumbled onto it, dear RG.

Best,
rd

PS--a rare visit...I'm really not active here these days. nice that we stay in touch on FB!

Beloved Brooke
This is sweet, dear. You say, 'modest contribution' but please remember that brevity can be powerful and sometimes more memorable and impacting than longer poems!

My only suggestion is to consider using present tense instead of past, as it is an ongoing thing, no?

Tears shed for Brooke
birth a rainbow
of love and hope.

Nice alliteration of B and a perfect image and presentation. While the rainbow imagery is somewhat cliche as a symbol of love and hope, I find it powerfully suitable for the context, and potently delivered in the three lined poem, making this poem strike a chord!

Love,
rd

A Triolet For Brooke
Hi Yelena....just a passing visit here...miss you all, but I'm so busy lately!

Lovely, sweet tribute, dear, with fine musical triolet form. It's an apt form for a tribute to our beloved Brooke, as she often wrote them...and rhyme and meter are her forte!

My only suggestion is not consider not having this in past tense! I'm sure she is not done yet!

Example:

Your verses celebrate the sun,
the ladybugs, the ocean whales;
the Sawyer poems are such fun,
your verses celebrate the sun.
Your metered gold is finely spun
with sparkling threads of dream-like tales;
your verses celebrate the sun,
the ladybugs, the ocean whales.

Love your rhyme of spun and sun.
Whales and tales works well too.
Glad you mentioned those ladybugs and Sawyer too--both beloved trademarks of hers!

Especially love these lines:

Your metered gold is finely spun
with sparkling threads of dream-like tales;

Love,
rd

Hello, dearest friend! I was wondering where you were. So glad you stopped by! I agree with your suggestions, I thought something was amiss in my poem. Will make the changes. I hope and pray daily for Brooke to come back to us and write again. I miss her uplifting, sunny poetry and her joy de vivre. Glad to see you! Are you still in the US?

A Prayer for Brooke
I am sorry I missed this tribute to Brooke when you first posted it, but I am glad to be reminded about her today and can only hope that no news, is good news in terms of her recovery. You struck just the right chord, when you described her sharing her "expertise". Many thanks for your prayers- Joan

Thanks so much Joan! I know so many miss her and hope she will be back soon. Her reviews were always helpful to me and I learned a lot from her. I haven't heard any updates recently. I will have to ask around and see if there is any news. Melissa

reply by Joan E. on 13-Jul-2015
I check her profile page regularly and ask other FanStorians and haven't found any clues. We'll just have to continue to think positive thoughts--my mother lived for 25 years, until age 84, with MS. Warm regards- Joan

reply by the author on 13-Jul-2015
Yes, we will. I think MS can hit at any age, can't it? I know someone that was in their 30's that developed it.

reply by Joan E. on 13-Jul-2015
Yes, it usually is diagnosed much earlier--my mother and Brooke (and perhaps Moreen's Pen) were exceptions. Hopefully, there will be a medical breakthrough soon! -Joan

A Dew Drop of wisdom
I enjoyed your poem very much. It is so heart-felt. The words are true and uplifting. I believe Brooke will enjoy it as well.

Good job on the rhyme and color scheme. The flow was great, too. Your words can be applied to many who feel the same way. Good job expressing your thoughts. Thanks for sharing.
