How very true and heartbreaking. The world today is as sad as in 17th century where poverty and abuse were commonplace and it shouldn't be. I hope you are feeling better after your surgery. regards Mabaker

Thanks. My surgery went very well but falling and breaking 8 (a few doctors insist it was 9) ribs was and is the hardest for me to recuperate from. I hope to be back on my feet by the end of January and able to post and review more.

A very moving and thought-provoking piece. You're doing such a great job. It's quite an undertaking, setting all this up. A ton of kudos to you.
What a terrible world where a missing child is nothing, where tourists need to be pampered, and where personal comfort goes above all. I hope you get lots of help with your project. Also hope you'll feel better soon.
Found a couple things you may consider if you agree:

-I tried every combination of words,(comma) but continued to come up
- punished them severely,(comma) demanding weekly payments
-get to the United States,(comma) so his family can
-finding lost children are not a priority in Mexico - is not a priority
-I wanted to know,(comma) if I did this, would the Noroesta publish
-Where it happens and how much attention it gets depends too much on where it happens. - Leave out the first 'where it happens'?

Very much enjoyed this post. Keep up the good work on and off the page.
:) Tessa

What a wonderful idea and perfect way to help what seems like a hopeless situation. It is sad, and if I was of childbearing age living there, id refuse to bring a child into a place without opportunities.

There are many opportunities here in Mexico, but the smaller towns have so much poverty that it draws the gangs and troublemakers. It is the same with all poor countries. Mexico emphasizes getting an education and that is the only way out of poverty and toward a better life. This is also why so may want to come to American, to get a good education and then go home and get a great job...but alas, they are look upon poorly and everyone assumes they are all dug dealers and refuses them entry, even when they try to come legally thy are told to go home leaving them no choice but to try and enter illegal.

Hi Sasha,

This is a thought-provoking write, which highlights how poverty can lead to so many other terrible things. It's not just Mexico, but every poor nation which undergoes such problems. It's disappointing to see how people can be so insensitive. You've highlighted the problems prevailing there in an effective way.

Some spags:

# Few, if any of these girls ever go back to where the abuse began-home.

You probably want to use a dash in "began-home", so you need to put spaces around that hyphen to make it a dash, like " began - home."

# After watching the special, I went for a walk(,) and in the Machado, I saw a flyer for a young girl who went missing on August 1, 2015.

# All he wanted was a small house with running water (-) not much to ask for.

# Back home(,) the local gang punished them severely(,) demanding weekly payments that the father could not make.

# I know this is just an opinion, but I would not be at all surprised if the majority of these naysayers are church going bible thumpers-you know the ones that say little but love to quote scriptures.

Same issue with spaces around hyphen.

I'm glad to you you're taking such a big and brave effort to help those families. It's good that your local contacts are going to help you out in this. Wishing you all the best!

Regards,
Anupam

What a wonderful project! I do wish you all the luck in the world with it. I strongly look forward to hearing how it develops.

Typos/SPAGs. (Square brackets indicate suggested deletions, and asterisks, suggested insertions):

'Many of these children are as young *as* four and five years old'

'[Where it happens and] *H*ow much attention it gets depends too much[,] on where it happens'

Glad Adriana was found and is doing well. It is awful the amount of missing children all over the world and the lack of resources in some countries that make finding them difficult and impossible. I agree, children who leave abusive homes should not return there. My husband left an abusive home when he was fourteen years old. I wish you well in developing your web site.

Thanks. I probably shouldn't have been so hard on Jada Pinkett Smith, but her solution really annoyed me. It will be a lot of bureaucratic work, but in the end, well worth it.

An excellent project, Sasha. Developing a listing is the first step. Having the listing available to all law enforcement agencies and encouraging them (via publicity)to use it. Is the next step. I wonder if there is a TV personality who might champion the cause. Imagine the effectiveness of a 15 second spot on the nightly news!

A few minor grammar glitchrs (people are "who"; things are "that"), for example.

Best of luck. A great undertaking. :) Nancy

What a wonderful heart you have, Valerie - And you are a marvellous person for actually DOING something about what you believe so passionately in.
You're right about the number of missing and abducted children out there. It's huge - and yes, it happens even in the US and other 'civilized' countries.

The problem of run-aways is also tragic - although it is a very different from abduction - the results are often the same.

I wish that kids who run away could have a place to go where they would be safe, and be granted a place where they could stay without parent intervention for at least the time it would take to determine what caused the child to run away. It would be horrid injustice to return a child into a home where they are being abused. Anyone that would advocate for that is an idiot.

Stolen children are slaves. They have no voices, and no one to listen to them if they did. I'm sure that all countries have some form of this underground hell up and running somewhere. The poor countries are worse than ones that have the resources to locate the kids and put the perpetrators and their customers in jail.

I admire your tenacity. Just remember that the 'hunters' of children will also have access to your website. There are a lot of creeps out there.

Rose.

I have spoken to a Mexican friend about the possibility of creating a safe-house but the danger in that is that it too often becomes a source for exploited children. Again difficult to do but definitely worth looking into.

These poor youngsters - not only are they missing, but what's more alarming is, no one is searching for them-the authorities which is surely part of their job. How devastating for the parents who genuinely love their child. What I don't understand is all the publicity, the man-power and time spent on looking for the the girl who disappeared in Portugal, and yet you hear nothing about others.

One can imagine how desperate these people living in horrific poverty and rear, are.

Good luck to you, Sasha.

Margaret

The girl who disappeared in Portugal was from a different country. Down here if a foreigner is missing or murdered they will do anything to find her. Sadly, Mexico is a very poor country and does not have the resources we are used to having in the US. The government and people care very much about their children put police make less than $200 a month and the job requires very little education, so good, qualified people do not apply for the job. Unfortunately, they do the best they can with outdated equipment and a police force ill equipped to handle the numerous lost or missing persons reported.

I am sure this is going to be a learning experience for me. My friend Juan Ramon came through for me and has a friend with his PH.D. in Engineering that lives here in Mazatlan and specializes in web design. He has offered to do it for free. At the moment the first thing I need to do is contact the authorities and find out where to direct the people who respond to the website. Here in Mexico, it is very important to get the right permission from the right people before undertaking such big endeavor.

I am addressing human trafficking in a few up coming posts in my novel, Texas Dream Catcher. I 35 in Texas has problems with that. I know it's heart breaking and the US needs to address it better than they do.

I was very unhappy with the CNN special. It only focused on the prostitution side when there is so much more to human trafficking such as slave labor, babies sold, forced drug mules and the list goes on and on.
