Games, games, games. Everyone is on a game, an I-pad, or a phone. You can't even talk to people anymore as they just ignore you. I have done everything to get my two main business partners to go all in on a real, well, not real, but a place with about four screens that encircle a two to three hundred-foot area that has a movie running across the screen backed with a laser grid that can calculate exactly where the real bullets hit the screen. Giving a score of hits and misses for everyone who shoots. Making it into a contest that draws people from all over. There can be hundreds of films to hunt different things, even zombies and real people. Oh, well, I guess I'm going to have to do this one alone. One partner has died and the other says he is too old. I remember when they were game for any idea I came up with. Thanks for another great story, and I apologize for going off on my rant. This is just an idea that might be the biggest thing yet. One in every state, and a grand palace between about every eight. There are more people into hunting than all the other sports combined. The market is endless. See what you do to me? You make me think. Thanks! Great job. :-)

Wow. What a great idea. Better than a regular shooting range, but you'd have to control for direction and it may be dangerous to have more than one person in a shooting room. Someone fast on the trigger could shoot a friend by mistake when the targets change on the screens. Maybe, strap the participants back to back(four would work) and have the screens around them. Images could then move from screen to screen. The shooters wouldn't have to move--just shoot. If one person wanted to rent a room and use all four screens, giving him multiple targets to ratchet up a big score--scoring would be important--bragging rights you know-- well, he could pay more and be a single participant. That way you cover all price ranges and can have family, dates, and avid-single shooters all happy.
That's my two cent consultation. Now, sign me up.

Oh, thank you for your review.

Let me know how your idea goes. Old fellows who aren't gamers may not buy this. But gamers will love it. There's a whole generation of those who'd rather be inside than out in the woods and they'd rather not actually shoot a living thing.
Like you said there would be different prey. It looks like you need a game designer and then backers. If you can start one venue on your own to give it a test run and hone the game(s), finding backers shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm really pulling for you. Excited=me.

Those screens are actually outside, butted together so that the targets are actually a running movie that covers all screens at once. The place would have practice rooms set up, but this would be like the grand finally. Competitions set up that would last three to five days at a time, and only the finalists winning the opportunity to shoot on the big screens. I have three people now that want to put up the money for the first place, but they want most of the rewards and for me to do all the work. Most of the programing is to the fine tuning stage. Now, I just have to either commit or scrap the idea. :-)

Don't let anyone rip you off for the profits. Sure you will have to do the work and for that you should garner the fifty-one percent control.
They investors get their profit when the business begins to make money.
I'm sure that you're eager to start, but a bad contract/agreement will end it for you. You don't want a fight on your hands as they complain and you're exhausted. Been there done that when opening a restaurant with ten other investors. Five of us had key jobs. The others wanted the same profits--we were working and getting paychecks.
You should get a salary for the work you do. We gave the investor-only partners a specific amount of promotional use( drinks, dinner). Eventually, we sold the restaurant at a profit and that's when all investors made a profit.
If you go the way of stock or shares then everyone will have to pay for the use of the facility. Investors don't get to play for fee. Bring their friends and party for free. Beware of that angle. We had to say no. Luckily we had a lawyer as one of the investors. haha
Talk to your lawyer for advice.
I believe in the protections that a sound contract can give any business. Chart into the future. What to do if an investor want's out, etc.

Stay cool. No need to scrap it.

I have an attorney that I keep on retainer, and two others that I contact pertaining to certain matters. I'm just not sure I want any partners if I can't have the ones I've worked with for many years. Besides I'm damned near too old to take this one on, anyway. :-)

Dealing with people that you haven't already established a relationship/ trust with can be a big gamble.
There are a lot of schiesters out there looking to sue. If something goes south, they move in to take any assets you don't have tucked away in a trust. You've dealt with gambling and should have a nose for wheeler-dealers. If it doesn't feel right, you're probably catching a scent. Rely on your instincts.
Meet their associates, family, don't just deal in an office or in your environment. Find out about theirs. You've probably already done this, so excuse my bossy nature. I just don't want you to get taken.
Again, contracts protect you. Stay safe.

Do you have family? Children to leave a new enterprise to/to help you run it. You said you were getting too old to do all of the work.

reply by Ric Myworld on 19-May-2016
I'm not too old to do the work, but I'm not interested in going back to the sixteen-hour days to see a project through. And the sad part is, there just aren't people out there anymore you can be trusted to get the job done, which forces us to do it ourselves. Work ethic is gone. Maybe I just need a beach hut bar in Central America? And I don't even drink. Hope you are doing well, and look forward to reading more of your work. :-)

I think we need to start a movement where children are required to go out and play. I always enjoy reading your posts and this is no ex exception.

No such games for me, thank you. A visit to the twilight zone, for sure. Even the adults are totally absorbed by their adult games. No wonder the kids aren't interested in anything else. I really like the words you've used to suggest the fantasy--the power source lunch and the color surge and the plasma barrier. This is the type of mind control that was exercised over the people in "Fahrenheit 451." One can't help but feel pity for those living such an existence. They seem happy, though. judi

You're very welcome. That was a scary look into the future, but one that we may expect, the way so many are addicted to video games, cell phones, etc. judi

Hey stranger, where ya bin? This was a curious write up hehe. Had me fooled with the shooting session and the Deer. A bit of a different angle for sure. If you look I think I still have at least one poem with rewards up for review. Good to see you back.

This was a feast for gamers imagination. I can see that this story could be expanded into a science fiction novel without to much trouble. Very well done.

    Thank you, Donald.
It does have possibilities, but I'm not up to writing a novel anymore.
    I do appreciate the thought--quite a compliment.

The bodiless aliens, advanced and immortal, vacationing and playing in human bodies was used before to good effect. Crazy adolescents in charge would explain our last few elections...excellent story.

Ellen, I found this piece both fascinating and thought-provoking. You never fail to amaze me with your imaginative posts. I think the scenario you play out here is one that could be most-certainly real on a planet we've yet to discover.

Great job!

There was an audible warning snort then a whitetail flashed, and the sound of hooves sped deep into the forest. Boy did I love reading that line. It reminded the Big Buck Hunter arcade game I used to play.

Haaaaaaa, I got a good laugh out of Mom playing Porno World and Drug Adventures. And such an apt observation of our social constructs.

This is great, Ellen. You have taken science fiction into a newer and more personable level. I only think most of the time I have no control over my thoughts. Which is either alarming or a relief, depending on the kind of thoughts they are.

Exceptional story writing with warmth, humour and truth.

Love it!

Gloria
