Wow! Not sure how I missed this before but I'm so glad it won this contest or I might have missed it altogether. It is remarkable in many ways. The cadence and the rhyme pattern with the internal rhymes consistently placed in each stanza, carries the story along at a galloping pace, but best of all is the spooky story so well-told and
hauntingly authentic. It all works together to make a very intelligent and gripping tale most deserving of the first place prize. Congratulations and I am thrilled to have placed second... Just wanted you to know that, after our conversation yesterday. ;")

Thanks, Adonna, I really appreciate you taking the time to read this.
I obviously have no more room to gripe where site sponsored contests are concerned, LOL.
I'm really glad you enjoyed not only the rhyming and rhythm in this poem, but the story behind it as well.
Thanks so much for your support and generous rating.
I deeply appreciate your kind comments.

As always, your retelling of a gruesome legend gives the myth new life and a new warning to beware of the things the happen in the dark and lonesome places. A sad tale that certainly makes the legend even more creepy. Well told.

Thanks, debi. That's a great compliment and you're so kind for saying so.
I'm really glad you enjoyed the story of Glenda Grooms and her doomed, would-be suitors.
Thank you as well for the six stars. I never take those for granted.
    All my best,
    With gratitude...

Hi Dean
Wow!
You never cease to amaze me with your mastery of all tales evil.
Cleverly presented and so powerfully written to unravel a tale not just
creep, but steeped in history as well.
A very spooky read.
:-) Shirley

Such a spooky legend - very hauntingly well written. I think I'll pass on visiting the castle, though. If the date hasn't all ready passed, best of luck in the contest! Evi

I gave away my last six, Dean, or you know I'd have to give it to you. Another scary tale of ghosts and legends that are brought to life with your haunting verse, the stark images, the surrounding audio. V6

Thanks, Bill, and no sixes are ever necessary, my friend. As long as you enjoyed reading it, then that is reward enough for me.
    Take care, and thanks again.

Dean, your poem based on an old Scottish legend is filled with hair-raising suspense, and enticing enough to lure brave young men to take the dare of venturing across the rotten bridge to where Glenda waits.

Your sources of information are profound as is your ability to write leaving the mystery for us to find - or avoid. With graphics and audio we can see the spectres you create in a masterful write.

Dean,

What a fun poem! Now, the fact that it's based on something close to reality is NOT fun, but since THAT is in Scotland and I am in the US, I suppose I will act like a big girl about it. This time. *smile*

Just noticed one small nit, btw:
1.) Deep in the Moors of Breckinridge, near (Bailey)shore and Kern

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

-Well written poem with amazing illustrations for your story in a poem.
-I appreciate the author notes very much.
-Good rhyme, meter, imagery, and story.
-Story progresses well with background in stanza one to the conclusion.
-As we learn from the author notes, I can see why Glenda is the way she is.
-The last couple of stanzas show the results if one goes lurking there:
* "It's men she seeks, her ire piques, when'ere they're near her berth"
* "That path, it leads to Glenda's wrath ... or so the legend goes."
-Good luck in the contest.
