I surely hope you took some liberties with this dream. If not, I hope Jimi was able to as least get a little sleep. You did a wonderful job writing this poem, as you always do.

Well, perhaps just a few liberties, Barbara.
Thank you very much for reading.

A very well-written poem and a moral lesson to learn. Never take what's not yours, if it don't get you when you are still alive, after death there will be no more get away.

I gotta tell ya, Dean, this is my favorite one of yours to date. This is a very clever and creative poem and short story all in one. The rhyming is exceptional and unforced and the syllable count is spot on. Your word usage really creates great imagery and that combined with the pictures really brings this poem alive. Exceptional Job, keep up the good work.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review this poem, Bobby.
I apologize for my rather lengthy delay in responding.
Don't think for one moment that it's not because I don't appreciate it--I do! It's just been really crazy around here of late.
I can't take all of the credit for this one, with the exception of writing it. Our own Jimi (jlsavell) provided me with the inspiration for this by sharing her dream with me. I changed it around quite a bit, of course, but she still gave me the idea.
So, having said all of that, thanks so much again for your thoughtful comments and very generous six stars.
    I deeply appreciate it!

This is a real classic. A complete and ghastly tale of crime and horrid, supernatural retibution. Told in iambic octameter with occasional metrical substitution, e.g. some interesting feminine endings, and I am not speaking of Mrs Glickman here. Lol. The accompanying music was horrifically appropriate thumped out on one of those old fair ground organs that run on punched paper scrolls. It was aso appropriate but I did find it impossible to concentrate on the poem while it was playing. I had decided to copy it to word when thank heavens (or should that be hells) it stopped. Perhaps it goes on just a touch too long.

Oh, I love Jimi! I'm glad she inspired you to pull from your never ending source of outright scary, to delight us with this nightmarish poem. Poor Jimi if she dreamed anything like this. Wow!!

You'll dwell with me eternally in Hell's own clown menagerie. ~~ If I was afraid of clowns, this part would really get me!! Great turn of words, my friend.

I hope Jimi enjoys!

Dean, dear Dean, pure macabre brilliance. And for the record everyone, my dream is nowhere near this creation. The inventiveness is pure Dean all the way through and through. I am thrilled my rather hysterical nonsensical dream inspired such a tour de force of spine tingling tale from a mortar crypt, but you my friend are the master of dark imagination but somehow always manage to wrap it up with real truisms. I am in awe. I love this.. poetry which entertains well breaks the monotony of the redundant. My best to you.. jimi

You are to never ever worry about anything. I, totally understand, though I am not near as popular as you, I get way behind. I know you are appreciative. I am glad I somehow inspired your muse. It humbles me. And yed, do not be so humble, your creation was absolutely your own. Do not we all get inspiration from something? We have too! So you take care .. oh and by the way, I am not short of macabre dreams. Lol

I read every word with thoughts of Stephen King being deluged with 'Clown sightings' and going to elementary school with a mortician's daughter who said her father was a 'Professional Boxer' (I thought that was pretty good humor for an 11 year old). It sounds like one of those dreams I've come out of screaming lately since even though specters don't bother me, clowns do since my very first circus at at the age of 4 ;)

Hi Dean,
this is just brilliant, a horror poem within a story that has a moral. I am now trying to remember back if I ever took something I shouldn't have. I probably did but my mind refuses to acknowledge it. I hope my time is not upon me soon. Really scary.

I'll usually always try to spin a horror tale towards making a moral point, Brenda. It's something I believe in doing.
Thanks so much for reading and for your positive feedback as well.

This is an excellent poem, Dean, deserving of a sixer. Full of imagery in your macabre story with internal and end-line rhymes--always a favorite. Congratulations on another fantastic write. Marilyn

Well dean you have done it again a ripper of a poem that made me smile and what a good way to get the message across. Loved your 8 x 8 syllables per line that made this read so well and kept up the meter and rhythm with great rhyming, however the only line I struggled with was the second last line the ' Dont take things that dont belong to you' just a little too many syllables 9 that made me stop to reread a few times and maybe if you wrote ' dont steal; that dont belong to you' it would let the rhythm flow and still keep the message of not taking things that dont belong to you Just my suggestion but loved it anyway. does not distract from giving you a six star rating Cheers Christine???
