Hello Dean Kuch, A beautiful and heartfelt tribute to our Veterans of Normandy and to all veterans of WWII.
Of special note:
At seventeen, I went to war.
Now Hitler's Third Reich is no more--
I learned to hate, but little more,
still haunted by the screams...
(So very, very true. Interestingly, a large portion of WWII was fought and won by "teens" who wore the boots of a man (or woman) and grew up in a moment. There was no time to question. There was no time for looking back. Perhaps, that's how they survived their PTS disorders -- always looking forward.)
A timely poem of honor to our Veterans and to the brave Men and Women who serve our Armed Forces. May God bless them and protect them.
Excellent complementary photo choices. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Thank you for your very comprehensive review and six stars, LateBloomer.
I am really pleased that you enjoyed this.
As a veteran of the Marine Corps myself, I have the utmost respect for all the brave men and women in our armed forces, both past and present.
Thanks again for reading!
Take care,

This piece meant more to me than I can describe. I agreed to work with
a couple in their ninety's. His name was Jerry, her name is Grace. They had been
married only six years. We had to put Jerry in hospice last week and Grace was with him every day. They are BOTH WWII veterans. On Friday, Veteran's Day, Jerry died with his wife by his side and I was beside hers. I went to church with her today as she wore her WWII jacket and hat. Tomorrow is their wedding anniversary. Come to find out Jerry's dad, also a veteran, died on Veteran's Day.
I will be sharing your piece with Grace. Thank you. -Bill

Wow, that means a lot to me, Bill, that you think enough about this to read it to Dear Jerry's widow, Grace.
I think that's one of the best compliments I've ever received in my three years spent here at FanStory.
Thanks for your as always supportive comments, as well as the stellar rating.
I deeply appreciate it.

Good poem!! Love the beat, meter, and especially the rhyming. My favorite stanza was the one where all the words rhyme with extreme. (I copied and tried to paste it--didn't work.)
People can't forget what 'Veteran's Day' is about--not picnics and just a day off from school and work, but the ultimate sacrifice that men and women made with both life and psychological/physical health.
Keep on writing!!
