Dean, you have truly touched my heart with this precious poem that is full of nostalgia and missing-ness. Grandmother is still a memory that will linger always in the heart, mind and soul, even more for some than for the others. I have memories of my Grandparents but they all passed away when I was still a young child. my memories may not be as full as your but I could imagine your mind at work in that attic. This is one of the greatest poems I have seen, full of your heart and soft side. I really appreciate finding this gem this morning. May your day be full of joy and kindness. (I wish I had a six)

I entered this in a site sponsored free verse contest, Tier, and really poured out my heart and soul into the writing of this piece.
It didn't even place--not so much as an honorable mention.
No matter how "Well Received" my writing might be, that always seems to be the case for me, at least for the most part.
So, it is doubly gratifying to me that you took it upon yourself to take the time to dredge this poem up out of FanStory obscurity, read it, and offer your heartfelt opinions about the poem.
I appreciate that more than you know.
    God bless you, my friend.
    You have made my day.

This one digs in deep, Dean. Nostalgia's main ingredient, loss, never fails to find my guilt and longing. I wish they were here to hug and hold and whisper the "Thank you" they never heard. Your word choices are perfect, as they blend the sights and sense together for such an experience.

You said it so well, Bill.
    I wish the same.
Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me on this rarely written style for me, the free verse form.
I'm so glad the message resounded for you, and perhaps stirred a few emotions.
I very much appreciate your supportive and very generous six stars.
Warmest wishes, and have a very happy Thanksgiving, my friend.

Dean, I can't express in words what this beautiful free verse poem means to me. It's so ... moving. I cried like a little baby. I could see you walking up to grandma's attic, a little Dean, missing his grandma, his loving grandma who loved him so much. All her precious things left behind so you could still be with her from time to time. I know that feeling.

The beautiful art piece and music added to the emotion. You are such an awesome poet. I have no doubt in my mind you could publish this poem and many others you have, but that is a personal choice.

Thank you for sharing this little piece of your heart.

Gypsy

My grandmother was also Cook, by marriage. She was an incredible woman.
The music behind this piece was very important and I thank you for it.
Free verse is my way into poetry. Thank you for stepping into it. It's good to
know that we both have Grandma Cook's. She was raised not far from you in
western Ohio.

You've used the senses well in this wonderful poem
The sight and sound, but more the smell and touch
of those preserved memories
that wait to be released
Free verse fits the poem very well
and takes us back in time
Excellent art work and presentation
with the perfect title
Best wishes in the free verse contest

Brought me to tears. Especially the end. I am lost for words.

You don't write free verse often? I rarely read it, so glad I didn't miss this! It was the very well chosen audio that broke me.

I miss my Grandma too.

RIP to all those we miss and love.

Rachel

I'm more of a old-style traditional rhyming Poet, Rachel, therefore I don't write free verse very often.
But I felt compelled to write this for my dear grandma as free verse, as that's how my muse moved me.
    Thanks for reading and reviewing.
    Have a lovely evening.

Good job, DeanO. Of course your poetry always is great stuff. I tried to copy and paste the twoareas I liked the best but for some reason I am not able to. Sorry. Suffice to say, the whole poem is a great job.

Good luck in the contest. I know you will do well. Bob

What a wonderful free verse tribute to your Grandmother, Dean. I was raised by my grandmother, so my memories are entirely of a different timbre.

I love attics and your lovely imagery makes for a total delight.

Best wishes to you in the contest. This is a good strong contender.

I know Grandma is smiling at this wonderful tribute you wrote. I have wonderful memories of my grandmas. Your descriptions are perfect with this poem. I could see and feel them. Good luck.
