Beautiful poem. Very well written. The attic always holds a number of secrets and treasures, especially from our childhood. I can just imagine the things that you found.

I found some wonderful things up there, Writer51. A couple of old pictures of my Grandma and Grandpa during the 1040's. Those I kept.
Thanks very much for reading. I do appreciate your comments.

Verrrry nice poem. Terrific use of alliteration. Touching story. I felt like I was in MY grandma's attic. I missed her tho I hadn't thought of her in months. The music is not so annoying this time... didn't even have to turn off the sound. Well done... not even ONE monster popping out of a trunk. :)

Nope, nothing like that when writing about my Grandma Cook, Phyllis.
She loathed horror and was a very God-fearing, wonderful woman.
I hope it comes across through the words of this poem how much I truly do miss her.
She would have liked to know that.
Thank you for your wonderful words and six stars.
As always, I sincerely appreciate it.

I last saw any of my grandparents, my nana, who lived in England till she died in Liverpool, England, in 1992, aged 92, the rest of my grandparents died before 1959, I saw my paternal grandmother briefly in 1949, so well done, Dean, presentation as always brilliant, great alliteration, displaying your brilliant literary skills, all on display, well done, great entry on the free verse contest, good luck, blessings, Roy

A great poem. This is the first time you ever went in the attic and something didn't jump out at you. This reminds me of the attic in my Grandparents' home. When I was young one of my favorite things was to go in their attic. and spend hours looking at the old things.

Oh you brought back the memories piece by piece and even the little things that seem to play on the edge of your thoughts.
Very nicely done.

Dean,
I'm sorry about your grandmother. I know what you mean about the attic--mine was more about my grandfather. My aunt cleaned out the house--wasn't a good scene. She through out a lot of memories--lots of photos of me as a child--my old toys, etc.
Your poetry is full of feeling! Keep it up. :)

Awwww, what a sweet way to commemorate a special woman in your life. You have fond memories that translate easily through your creative poem. No rhyme, fun structure, and a whimsical picture of the past.

Wonderful jogging of my own memories~

It is funny how the 'stuff' in a grandma's attic can bring back memories that we thought were long forgotten.
Recently, I opened an old trunk, and the smells of the past drifted to remind me of those years, sealed within, waiting to be remembered.

I really could relate to your free verse, Dean.
Best wishes for the contest.
