The whole world was watching this inauguration with bated breath. What would he say? Goodness me, I am English, and I feel amazed President Trump (sounds weird) got to that point. He was voted in, and now the world is up in arms! How did it happen?? Now we will all be watching what he does, how will America cope with this new style president? Time will tell. Excellent piece of writing. :) Sandra xx

I'm Canadian, just 100 miles from the border and we've been treated to the horrible rhetoric of the election cycle. What he saud to get elected, if turned into policy, is an affront to human decency, Yes, we will need to watch what he DOES, and try to forget what he actually said. Thanks for reading..

Nicely said.
I mean it. My words are very different, so I don't utter them.
But I am energized to peacefully obstruct the destruction that this charlatan represents.
Thanks for sharing.

Gene, today, around the world 2.5M people who are deardul stood up and marched for human rights and decency. I don't think surrender is on the horizon, and I suspect many people near you feel the same as you do--no matter how they voted.

    Thanks for the stars.

Yes, Ingrid, God bless America, indeed. A day after the inauguration I am still trying to wrap my mouth around the words President Trump. The impossible combination has happened. Yes, "It will be a long time before any of us see another man like Barack Obama." You are right to point out the contrast between Obama's oratory style and Trump's tweets.

The barn-burning means he used to become President scarred the country. Your assessment in this essay is correct:"a marathon await for sober, selfless leader less infatuated with his brand and dedicated to the blind faith of millions of Americans."

For now, I hope but fear.

Thank you for sharing your fine thoughts on a troubling political situation.

Ah, my dear Ingrid,
you so love to initiate the divide with content you know will stir a certain amount of pots... because as you say, half of the country voted in favour of voting an egotistical- sociopathical- narcissist over the usual 'old money' safe bet... that in itself says volumes as to the discord in the buzz of American society.

Me personally, all the crap about one person being in control... nah, there is and always will be the puppet masters... yes, even for someone who has dictatorial aspirations such as this poor excuse for a human being, let alone holding one of the highest offices in the world will have to answer to the power behind the power.

Now in spaying all of that, I would like to say how well your essay is written... JFK, assassinated by a mere mortal? Sorry, I'm the proud owner of a conspiracy questioned mind... hmmmmmm? Like most of my breed, we think we see through all the smoke and screen bullshit that is served through forked lip service... action will always speak louder than and word in anyone's book... that is the true worth of any individual. Especially when the Free World is on the precipice- dangling precariously waiting to finally let out a breath... me, I'm in shallow breathing mode as I await the fall-out to come.

Loved the read you sassy Canadian minx!

With our thoughts we create,
a buffer zone.

There was a time when I deliberately mixed it up by writing controversial essays. Not this time. I thomk 65M people agree with me. As I'm sure you can guess, there are people that neither thonk I have a right, as a Canadian, to have a strong opinion or even worse, dare to express myself.

Here's where I've arrived in my overall need for approval...F**k them.

This is a despicable man, and I have no problem putting it out there. So far, I have not noticed any rifles aimed at me through the screen. But as you say, the CIA is suspect and yet, who would ever really care what I think? Hugs, Ingrid Thanks for the stars, my friend.

Thing is... everyone on this planet has a right to an opinion on what's going to inevitably effect us all... Russia is sitting back rubbing their scheming little hands together-laughing, amused at the show of gullibility shown by the self proclaimed-so-called leaders of the free world... and now you know why the' God bless America' tag.. should be 'God help America and all of its allies'! vx's.

Here's my prediction/ Although Snowden, supposedly the biggest whistle blower, has just secured a two year extension on his asylum in Russia, will be given up by Putin to Trump to be charged with treason.

And...the puppet master smiles. Favours are ALWAYS returned.

Very well written. Candid and direct.
I agree with every word you've written and am still in disbelief that Trump will become president in a mere nine hours.
We are a divided nation. Marches and protests everywhere about our country seemingly sacrificed to deception.
With his egotistical needs as first priority, what's to become of us?

I'd really hope that the fallout from this upset is an awakening by Americans. Pay attention and don't slip into apapthy. At best, perhaps we are over-reacting, but government needs watchdogs. Watching the unfolding of this drama on /TV right now, Thanks.

I understand the excitement of discovering a leader who inspires and gives hope to ordinary and sometimes desperate people. Yes, I'm a Canadian, but when Barack Obama was elected, I wept. I totally understood both the symbolic significance of a black man reaching the highest office in the nation, and how much more difficult the job would be for him--because he was black. ... First of all, Ingrid, while I agree with everything you've written here about our 35th President of these United States of America, I do not agree with your assessment of our 44th Prez, Barack Obama.
Obama is not, nor has he ever been, black. No more so than I am (I have a great, great uncle named Sampson Cook who fathered 12 illegitimate children with slave women in the late 1700's.) Mr. Obama is Mulatto, or a mixture of both black and white.
He was also a deplorably horrible President.
Donald Trump will be infinitely worse.
Where are the JFKs of the world when you really need 'em?

And, while I completely respect your opinions concerning Obama's "reign", I don't agree with it.
But, that's what makes this Big Blue Marble we all share and call our home such an interesting place to live.
Nicely written,
~Dean

It is time for a change of pace. Maybe the next JFK is hiding out pretending to be a horror writer. There are different kinds of motivation, and quite frankly, I think you could scare the shit out of people given a platform and microphone. LOL

I know you don't share these opinion, but I appreciate your temperate response and respect for my opinions. No one ever needs to agree, they simply need to be able to talk to each other with reasonable maturity. I haven't seen that very much in the Trump cam-/ Not saying it isn't there. I don't believe, and you may agree here, that DJT represents the GOP's party ideology-.

Thanks for the read and review.

Excellent Op-Ed, Ingrid. This US election cycle has been deeply disturbing and informative in equal measure. I had no idea conspiracy theories held the attention of so many. According to a think tank, "Conspiracy believers are the ultimate motivated skeptics. Their curse is that they apply this selective scrutiny not to the left or right, but to the mainstream (elites). They tell themselves that they're the only ones who see the lies, and the rest of us are sheep. But believing that everybody's lying is just another kind of gullibility."

Red state voters don't hate the actual elites or they wouldn't have supported billionaire, Trump. It's the intellectual mind they loathe and even though Trump continuously brags about his genius level IQ, there is no evidence of his test results anywhere, other than he said so. Even his transcripts from Wharton are sealed. Make no mistake if Trump was a high-performing student, he'd have had those grades made into T-shirts and hats. I had to laugh when the Donald announced tonight that his cabinet has the highest combined IQ ever. You gotta be kidding me! That is the endorsement for his cabinet choices? Hopefully his inauguration speech is substantive and not more of this gloating nonsense. Show us the jobs!

Anyway I'm going to give the devil his dues and behave myself tomorrow, unless Trump wears a blue tie again, which might result in me blowing my cork.

Couple of typos:

Viet Nam (Vietnam)

Whitehouse (White House)

The baited (bated) breath, the continued expectation Trump will begin to act presidential (HAHAHAAAA--ain't ever gonna happen.)

And that is the long and the short of it. The battle hasn't even started. :))

Gloria

The logic, or lack therein, of these conspiracy theorists came as a shock to me as well. I can see how, even those taking Lithium, could build a case from some of the crap fluttering around for one or two issues, but when every, bloody, single thing, even Trump's live speeches labelled 'fake news, well I'm glad more federal money is being allocated to mental health.

Yes, I agree there doesn't seem to be as much resentment over the wealth, as there is a joyfulness it wasn't earned on DC. Elite? Of that I'm not sure. These guys think they're smarter than anyone.

My new irritant, or stunned reaction is the claim that the son-in-law, Jarred, is going to solve the Middle East issues. AND on top of that--Trump wants to move the embassy to Jerusalem. I don't know where this man's arrogance and delusions end.

Then again, maybe I'm the idiot. Thanks for the catch. See you tomorrow. .''

Very poignant write, my friend. I for one am always curious to know what people in the rest of the world think of the goings on in my country. I think their criticisms and their adulation, when it occurs, of equal importance to our own.

I agree with you in your assessment of President Obama. I do believe he accomplished much and could have accomplished more had it not been for all deliberate obstruction. I don't not believe he was the worst president ever either. I do not think is good for the nation either, but I have a wait an see attitude. However, trepidation is what comes to mind as his twitter rants and bad behavior continue. I, too, have notice the corrective nature of vice president and question it too. Like you I will be watching and listening. It will be a roller coaster ride for the next four years.

Very interesting perspective and applaud for sharing it with us.

I don't need to be right, but I suspect within a year you will be referring to your leader as President Pence. What happens in the USA is of supreme importance. He's already talked about ripping up NAFTA--and that ESPECIALLY--concerns Canada. He has sent the auto parts business into a whirlpool on both sides of our shared border.

As president, all words matter and hos twitter addiction is NOT good for the country. He keeps his 'plans' close to the chest, but indulges every impulse to to type reactions to things he should not be paying the slightest attention to. Thanks for the read.

reply by Donya Quijote on 19-Jan-2017
Many are predicting that Pence will become president before Trump's first term is up. I'm not sure who might be the more dangerous one: the one lies and rants, or the one who chocolate coats all the shit. Pardon my French!

Yes, Pence has a history of voting down any laws for the LBGT community.

It COULD be , Ingrid, that Trump Is the one representing AMRICANS that no longer have a blind faith in Government. ( What you will NEVR see) It COULD be that they in fact WILL be celebrating a leader who understands this great NEW awakening that IS , what the Powers that be, who brought us to this lovely point in History, are scared to death of. Despite your ominous seeming threat, many, many, WILL be celebrating a leader not doing the works of the Globalists.. But, the fight only begins... .

He COULD be the AMERICAN SAVIOUR or he might be the ANTI-CHRIST, if one is Biblically inclined.

You have a right to your celebration, your hopes and dreams. I wouldn't dream of trying to piss on your parade, but for millions of others, it is not cause to party. No one will change anyone's mind. When Trump begins to DO something both sides will be watching. When and if he does, only then can you or I expect the other to budge off their point of view. Thanks for the visit.

reply by djeckert on 19-Jan-2017
You make some good points. If he IS the anti Christ, he would have to do a 180 on almost every policy that he has put forth so far, but I suppose it COULD happen.
