I couldn't find anything wrong with it. I liked how it told a tale, that many women deal with on a daily bases. Some get away and some never do, unless it's in death. And children are affected as well.

What a wonderful, lovely tribute to women. We must all come together, stand together, if any of the abuses you mentioned are ever to be stopped.

March 8th is International Women's Day.

Genital mutilation, honor killings, spousal abuse and more....it makes me wonder if any men still exist who are not total assholes--pardon my French--and I'm afraid I know very few decent men, but at least two seem to be doing it right.

Keep writing. This is tragically beautiful.

Yes!

"She is mother to us all, and all is she
And whenever she falls, as such... do we"

This is one of the strongest poems I have read on the deleterious impact of misogyny, abuse, and domination of women. Your central metaphor is broken flower:

"Our broken flowers seldom heal
As pride they bear, scars conceal"

You then graphically and violently portray through poetry the many scars that misogyny causes:

"Her genitalia cut, so no pleasure gain
Then you hail his name as she mops the stain
And when the dowry low you burn her bed
As the young girl dies, again you wed"

You rally mothers, sisters, and daughters to achieve their full potential regardless of how much the masculine world view may try to hold them back:

"Rise, oh, mothers --adorn your wings
Pride now, sisters, the mockingbird sings
Hush, dear daughters, for heaven's awake
Bloom as before, n'er more to break."

You end your poem with a new definition of courage and an appreciation of the mothers who birthed us:

"So, remember well who gave you life
Her crime, henceforth, a woman... a wife"

This is an extremely strong and powerful poem that needed to be said, RG. Thank you for sharing and for caring.

Your poem flows so well - it carries the momentum and feeling with it. There's definitely a dark feeling, but you also inspire strength with it. Overall, great job!

A well-written poem that reflects a variety of emotions from begining to end. The words flowed well line to line combining easily and forming the message of the poem for the reader.the artwork and background color completed the piece well.

I am truly moved and inspired by your Opus. It reaches into my soul on the deepest levels every word formed to perfection. The final stanza lifts of the page and can uplifts the spirit of any woman who has endured such atrocities and for some this is the apology they never received. Masterfully written!

A wonderfully penned and read poem, my friend. Women are mistreated in so very many ways and you have described them well and this is a lovely tribute to them. Thank you so very much for sharing this, my friend. It is a subject that we need to have out in the open for that is the only way to end it~DEbbie

You have excelled even yourself with this poem, RG. Bravo, for writing about this barbaric practice which still continues. Your deep compassion, love and respect for women shines through, as always.
It's an honour to read your wonderful work.
Warm wishes,
Jane.

This is a powerful poem. I read it without the sound & with the sound. Both read well. Your 'story' is well expressed. I like the use of rhyme.

There is no end to abuse of any kind as your poem tells me. But women are stronger than what most get credit for.

Good job & thanks for sharing. Jan

Moving, tragic, yet supportive of women. Woman truly are amazingly strong to endure through the age many of the horrors they have had thrust upon them.

Your poem is obviously very well laid out as it progresses from example to example. IT's smooth and fluid. The tone is one of contrition. Its images dark and substantial. All and all a fine write....
