Humpwhistle, I take my hat off to you! (Not a cowboy hat, either), because this story has such power, evoked by the 'voice' you've adopted. No wonder you gain so many awards, for which I congratulate you. GaliaG's artwork is ideally suited to your story, and I can't wait to read Part 2.

Again, alvina, my heartfelt thanks. I'm always doubly pleased when a reader delves into my portfolio. Always a surprise, and a treat. For me, the fun in writing has to do with creating characters whose 'voices' I can hear. From that point, I basically take dictation. So glad you enjoyed. Peace, Lee

I give this story 4 stars because it is extremely rich in culture of the Old West and a work of creative art on behalf of the author. I get the impression that some of the language is from the Old West and some created for the purpose of making this story more culture-rich. The story premise is fascinating and I anxious to learn the real reason why the stranger wants to kill a man. Something to do with a woman I'm certain.

Great stuff! Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition. Looking forward to the next section. Trace and Pinkley could make a great buddy team for a series.

Thank you, dweight. I like Trace and Pinkley, too. And I often revive characters. Who knows?
Just wondering, are you a fan of dband? Peace, Lee

I am still wowed by your ability to conjure up the characters, setting and circumstances and then turn them into a "Can't stop reading" story. Must have something to do with your(Now lost in the dim mists of time) childhood.
Your dialogue is filled with proper slang, well-suited not only to the characters, but also to the time period in which this drama took place.
Remarkable.

Great job on writing dialogue that gives that western flavour without dragging the story down. And I'm guessing from your unromantic description that you've spent time around horses. Looking forward to the second part of the adventures of Lunkhead and the Lone Ranger.

Thank you, Kate. I like horses. It's just that I've never met one I'd like to see on Jeopardy! Glad you are enjoying the tale. I just posted the conclusion. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

Wow, this is a great story. I love the accents and enjoyed the storyline. I thought it could be tightened a bit, especially at the start, but overall I loved it. Thank you for sharing and will look out for the next installment.

Thanks so much, dmt. I'll have another go at the beginning. Sometimes I get so wrapped up the characters, I forget to push the story. Thanks again. Peace, Lee

"You ever hear of Diego Ruiz?"
"Don't ring no chimes for me."
"Me neither."
The big man stood, stared down at me. "Either piss, or button up your privates, Sonny. I ain't in the mood for no riddles."
I laid out my plan.
You make me laugh SO very much with your fantastic dialogue. Don't ever change :) Love Meia :)

Westerns aren't my favorite genre, but I thought I should take a look and send you some comments since I made a point of telling you I'll be making more of an effort.

You want my constructive criticism? Nah, I didn't think so, haha. (Just funin ya about the last criticism I gave.)

Well, HW, this is well written as are all your stories, with realistic dialogue that moves the story along.

And, of course, your wit is sprinkled in. One of the lines that made me smile is: "...I ain't partial to neither."

Hm...I wonder why he wants to kill poor Dub. Good way of adding conflict and plot. And I like how you carry that through with your strong humor.

Thanks so much, Louise. I don't mind criticism, but sometimes I reply with sarcasm I hope is funny. Sometimes it isn't. Thanks for reading and commenting despite my crankiness. Peace, Lee

Lost River on the Llano Estacado, grinning bones on the trail to the Mustang Spring.
I must have blown it on the meds, reviewing is like Rorshach blots tonight. Good yarn, with your fine dialogery, Lee.

I kind of like Rorshach reviews. Are you recalling similar stories, or are you making them up as you read? I really like 'grinning bones'. Great title for a story.
Glad you enjoyed, my friend. Peace, Lee

There's an old song about the llano estacado, a kind of Green Eye of Yellow God romantic thing. I read
too much in my misspent youth.

Mebbe. But from where I sit, it serves you well.
