You've penned an interesting one here Jaybird. In different times and different generations, things were done differently as you've so eloquently stated. I believe that some things that we use to do could be due for a change. I also think that other things from the days of my youth like disciplining children and teaching them respect for elders isn't outdated. I love the message conveyed and enjoyed reading this. Great job and well done.

A very nice commentary on a time I wish we could all get back to, or at least a way we could all get back to. What ever happened to sitting out after dinner and talking with the neighbors, watching out for each other's kids and everyone knowing everyone else? Where did community go? What happened to children calling adults by Mr. and Mrs.? What's with the first names? I could never figure that one out... I lost that war with my child.

Can't help ya, dude, I was reared in a place about twenty years behind the times about twenty years after you....when men made the living while wives made the nest and brought the hatchlings to puberty, a partnership really hard to beat. Excellent
verses, like an 8/6 ballad beat...I read a blurb that millennials are unhappy because they have to work...whatever that means...

Always enjoyable to read your poetry Sir--and as an aging male myself, I can identify with the sentiment here--sorry no criticism --I enjoy your rhythm and rhyme!

All the Best!

Phil

Hi Jay,

This is a very good write, my friend. Indeed, it was a much different era back then.

One small suggestion for your consideration:

"We walk the married road , "

There is a space between "road" and the comma.

Thanks for sharing.

Jan

You have a special way with words.
The quatrains are consistent and well rhymed
to present a valid message in poetic fashion.
A well written pleasant read.

You did a good job, Jay, with your poem. I know where it is 'coming from.' Your lines flow smoothly with good rhymes and meter. Some men act as you write because of their upbringing which is ok if the woman agrees. If they act, out of line on the other extreme end, then that isn't ok. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Looks like we all may become a symbol of our time. Marriage that go the distance have many obstacles, hills and dale. My family was raised the traditional way father working , mother at home. I can relate to this.

Yes, you are right. Things were very different back then. My parents' marriage was very different from my own and my daughter's ideas are even more progressive than mine when it comes to chauvinism.
Thanks for sharing.

A loving poem with a view of past and current married life. The male is a creature of our culture. I know I am. Lol. One small typo in 3rd stanza is an extra space in "We walk the married road , Delete extra space.
