First I was excited, then I was sad; finally I was confused. Anticipation heald my interest for the first verses; I was disappointed that the poem did not have a happy conclusion.

Thank you for your review. I wonder why you were confused. This is a sonnet sequence that is telling a true story. Not all stories have happy endings. Did you give three stars because you wanted a happy ending? Also, if you joined in 2009, I wonder why you have no work posted and no fans. I also wonder why you went back to a poem I posted almost two years ago. What were you looking for? But... I?m glad to meet you volive. Sorry for your disappointment. MM

Thank you Richard. I sincerely appreciate your kind words about this poem. It was somehow cathartic to write it, but I was hesitant about posting it. Thanks so much for reviewing it.

It is evident that this excellent writing came straight from the poet's heart. The words within this work were filled with emotions that only a mother can relate to. I did relate my friend. It is well written, relevant, and absolutely breathtaking to read, so I will bookcase it. It would be a crime not to read this over and over.
Have a great evening.
Brigitte

Dear Adonna,

I love this strongly emotive sonnet sequence. The Shakespearean form is the perfect choice for the theme you've chosen. I know the words came from deep within your heart, and the poem is filled with love in every line. You have beautifully presented the unconditional love a mother has for her children. Even in the darkest days of hurt, the love remains strong; everlasting. I just can't say enough good things about these two sonnets and how they touched me.

From a technical point of view, the meter and rhyme and Shakespearean form are perfect. I agree with your decision to modify the first line of the sequence from its last line. It simply would not have been as effective otherwise.

Beautifully penned, my friend. I wish you had entered this in the love poetry contest.

What a great review, from my own great teacher. Thank you for the affirmation and for the stars too. I'm so glad you found this acceptable, imperfect as it is. I'm glad you could understand why I didn't want to make the last line the same as the first.

I think I have something else already in the Love Poetry contest. (I usually do. ;p) Thanks again. You've made my day. MM

"I've Loved You Fiercely" gives a brilliant display that is so much a secret held deep within a mother after years go by since losing a child. You are a poet who sometimes gives us a real tear, but in a welcome way, MissM.

Outstanding. You caught the deep, instinctive love of a mother for her child, an unrelenting love that never compromises, never fades, and never, never forgets.
Great lines and phrases.

An emotionally powerful sonnet sequence, dear MM. Yes, Mother's Day can certainly fill a heart with sorrow and grief when a child is lost and gone from a Mother's life. Your words convey the pain and anguish, but also the hope that never leaves a Mother's heart. The sonnets are perfectly written, and I always love your use of enjoyment.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Hi Karyn... thank you for your delicious review. I'm going to assume you meant my use of "enjambment" but if you meant enjoyment, I'll take it. I think using enjoyment might be a good thing to strive for. Thanks for understanding my theme, and for your sensitive comments. I truly appreciate this. Love, MM

This brought tears to my eyes and an ache to my chest. I have lost a child to death, but never to rejection or running away. I know parents who have been torn apart by what their kids did when they became teens and adults. It's agony enough to watch. I'm blessed to have not experienced that.

I love sonnets and many people can't navigate the form. You've done so with great skill. Congratulations on this excellent poem!

Thank you so very much for your intelligent and understanding review. I'm so sorry you lost a child to death. That would be so difficult. It is perhaps my greatest fear. Hugs and love, MM
