You always have interesting thoughts to share and you share them in a way that keep a reader fascinated. I'm glad you got some great tips for your play. Good luck in that contest. Well done.

Thank you, Teols, for digging into the archives. I still haven't heard from the contest committee. I don't know whether that's good or bad.

You're such a wonderful friend to share his expertise with us, Jay. I'm thrilled you had a chance to escape the heat, enjoy the California coast, and continue a friendship I'm sure Ray benefited from as much as you. It's so great to have a professional script writer in our midst to learn and explore the right way to construct one. Thanks for sharing, Jay.
Smiles,
Karyn :-)

Thank you, Karyn. That piece started out as a sincere apology for not staying up with the reviews on my latest post and getting behind reviewing others. It ended with an over-abundance of gratitude for Ray's and Lois' (his wife) hospitality and his unbelievable generosity. That got me thinking how fortunate we all are here at FanStory. Give me one page more and I'm afraid I'd have been waxing mawkish. Thank you for reading this, Karyn and for your usual kindness. You are the best.

Great advice to take advantage of the great writing on this site and to start with those that have been recognized by their peers. I will take you up on the invitation--that you for extending it.

I am new to the site and already loving it! As you state in your post...this is a treasure trove of knowledge I have stumbled upon even without the amazing review process. I have received more constructive feedback from one post on here than I have anywhere else, including in class. On a sidenote, I wonder how often Cleo's photography is used. It inspired my contest entry for the new arrivals!

Welcome aboard, my friend. I know you'll find your experience rewarding.. I've been aboard for better than 10 years so I've seen many come and go. The good ones tend to stay, turn friendships into relationships, and become members of a large family, bound together by the common need to create. Cleo's been around for a number of years. I've used her artwork many times. She's unique in that she is appreciative of your using her art/photography and doesn't hesitate to let the writer know. Look forward to seeing you around. Thank you so much for reading my post and for your kind words and generous rating.

This piece has humbled me lol. I joined this site to get an insight into my novel and find if I got what it takes to be the writer I always wanted to be and am I good enough to get published. With the support and guidance of everyone here I am getting there. Thank you for sharing and I might look your friend up next year. My last year at university is all about writing scripts and for television, both I know nothing about.

Jay, I will have to take up your advice to read the scripts in Fridayarthor's portfolio because of the nature of the work I do--performing stories on stage before an audience. I have performed solo pieces as long as twenty minutes, and have my sight on performing longer ones. Given that his plays have been published and performed he may inspire me. As you write, "he taught me something containing far more wisdom: he taught me how to sit in the audience, so to speak, and watch the effect of what my bunches of syllables, strung together, say--or more importantly, don't say--to that guy or gal (or both?) sitting in row 5, seat J."

Yes, indeed.

I also love your advice that FanStory can be a great means of boosting my writing skills. I am always impressed at how much members have improved my writing enough to the point where I can publish poetry. Prose is next:

For the student with a willing heart, you can boost your writing skills by years just by studying the portfolios of FanStory's scriptwriters.

Thank you for the advice.

I am glad you love Cambria. I spend every other fall there with a Bakersfield friend who owns a vacation home on the coast.

The postcard arrived in the mail today for the 40th Anniversary Bay Area Playwrights Festival, making me think of you.

Thank you for sharing your update and welcome back.

Oh, I hope you do take a peek at his plays. I think you'll find them very professionally written, and if you're like me they'll give you some perspective on your own persona/audience relationship. My play's submission is on my Calendar for July. I'm still having problems with act II, but should work through them before the deadline.

I'm thrilled you enjoyed my post. Thanks for the six stars. You rock,Andre!

Jay, I read the first scene of a FridayAuthor play. He is phenomenal. I decided to follow him on FanStory. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Jay, I hope you had a wonderful time. Loved the pulling on the nose hairs visual! Even if this was an update, you still wrote it well. Now, back to work! LOL Just kidding.

Hi Jay: I'm sure many fans look up to you for your timely reviews and motivation. How fun to be invited to watch plays that were written. You got to go outside your comfort site to relax in the audience. You can see through the eyes of the author, actors and audience.

I'm going outside my comfort of my garden to write another novel for NaNoWriMo.

I've read novels in a reader's circle to review top novels and Minnesota authors. Everyone has their own style.

Yes, I am learning to fly.

Jay: thank you sooo much! Maybe, Holy Spirit led, story line. Maybe, it's time to shine light in the darkness. Joyce Meyers sent me a magazine about sex trade in third world countries. People are poor so they sell their daughters She even had a Bible study, "What are you searching for?" I had this title six months ago. nancy

You're most convincing. I did look up your friend's scripts and read three chapters of The Box Builder. When time permits, I read the rest, but I was impressed that he knew how to introduce conflict and maintain interest. I love writing for the stage myself.

I know you do, Shari. I'm hard-headed, and must admit to you your criticism of my overwritten Act II Stage directions was apropos. It took a session with Ray to allow him to drill it into my head. I'm glad you found his play interesting.
