Hi there,

Congratulations on the win for this one. I can picture the whole thing very vividly. I have a friend who keeps cold callers on the line for ages and then after an hour or so simply says 'Nah' and hangs up...

Not that it matters but I did spot this-

"Heaven's sake! Don't wish that on me. You're talking hearing aids, hair loss, wheel chair, arthritis so bad you can't even cut Jello, eventually a nursing home. - needs closing speech marks here.

that would attract a "boy toy." - toy boy?

    You're right. I check it out on the net. It is toyboy and it's all one word capitalized. Thanks for catching this and the closing quotation.
    A friend sounds cool -- or maybe cruel for getting up hopes. :-)

The Do Not Call bit took care of most of my junk calls. I kinda miss giving a derisive
"Humph!" and slamming the phone down. Winner, huh? Fine by me. Well-crafted chat.

Loved this old lady. My only complaint is she didn't elaborate more in the second half switch. She deserves to live to a hundred and four, and you deserve all the best in the competition.

    I can really relate. During a low period my life , after a divorce, I was forced to take on a second job. By day I was a supervisor for a collection agency and in the evenings and weekends, I did telemarketing in the same office. I was selling $400. magazine contracts to people I knew couldn't afford it. Talk about compromising yourself. It was a nightmare.

This was fun. There was a post I saw that said when a telemarketer calls I'm going to hand the phone over to my three year old and tell him it's Santa. lol. It's great. My brother was a telemarketer for a long time. You couldn't pay me enough.

    To some extent this is based on truth. Except I waxed philosophical about my metaphysical POV. He wouldn't give up and I tired of the game. But it sort of made my day.

Nice, Shari! I enjoyed this piece. Oh, what I wouldn't give to turn the tables on a telemarketer. It's not as bad as it used to be with the do not call lists, but this brought back memories.

    Thanks for the sixer and correction, Russell. I've heard that the marketers have a fixed speech and if you interrupt it, they get lost. LOL
