Geeeeeezzz, you're great, my friend - SO SAD! All this from a household chore, so common, and now elevated to magnificent. "...snuggled like a button into the folds of my lap..." is just one of so many wonderful similes. The only one I question (and I am sure it's me - I'm just not 'getting' it) is this one: "...how my eyes spilt like lily's at a funeral..." Lilies don't weep, or am I missing something? (My mother always hated that flower - said it reminded her of funerals... Almost makes me afraid to love 'em! LOL)

What a wonderful review Dawn, I'm gobsmacked......no it's not you, it's just my imagination going into overdrive writing something only I would understand.....I went to a funeral once and there were lots and lots of bouquets outside the church and someone made a remark...."look at all these lily's spilling down the road"... it just stuck in my mind.
Thank you so much for such kind words and overwhelming rating.

I'm so sorry that you lost such a wonderful friend. I absolutely love cats and have two of them, and could not imagine being without them. They are unconditional love personified. Thank you for sharing this memory.

As I settle into my shadow,
comfortable on that sofa we used to share,
and she is snuggled like a button
into the folds of my lap,
it brings it all back,
how my eyes spilt like lily's at a funeral,
the things we have to let go
-as life sweeps up around our feet,
the dust, the fluff
-the cancer. ' I lost my beloved Bertie a year ago and have still not got to the stage where I don't cry when I find a whisker or remember how he looked when I had him euthanized. He was ill but I felt like a traitor. Bless the memory of our cats, this is an extraordinary poem by the way kind regards Meia xx

Anyone who has ever had a beloved pet for an extended period of time will appreciate the touching sentiments expressed here in your fine free verse poem, Mitchell.
We grieve for them just as we would a well-loved aunt or beloved uncle. They are NOT "just animals", as some like to say. They are our loving, loyal and faithful companions.
My Chihuahua, Gidget, has been with me for the past sixteen years. She is truly my best friend.
Wonderfully well written,

At one time we had a dog and seven cats, mostly strays, one large, beautiful tortoiseshell cat, off a farm, wild at first. The fur, we definitely didn't care about the possible disease, there wasn't any, now we're down to just one. We've loved every beautiful, inique animal, long tome family members, I loved the highly descriptive metaphor laden, free verse classic Mitchell, well done, good writing, blessings, Roy

What an astounding display of complex metaphorical imagination and writing creativity! To bring a whisker back to life and humanize it's entity through a maze of imagination is truly a gift of a proficient mind wanderer! I loved it and thank this author for a truly hairy trip! HIS GRAYNESS

Very well written but very sad. It's hard when whom you loved is taken away by some unseen force. Sometimes we don't understand it but I believe there in a better place. Great poem. Thank you for sharing

Hello, Mitchell,

A very emotional free verse poem about a cat and his grieving owner. It's about death too and how it affects us in so many ways. But mostly is about missing the old companion. Good job. It's very well written.

A fitting tribute to a lost friend who just happened to be a cat. We had a Bengal named Zaphnathpaene, it means revealer of secrets. It seemed like he could. He died three years ago and we still miss him. I have posted two stories about him.

Never easy to lose a pet, and especially to an ailment.

Understand losing this one to cancer. I lost a real good dog to that ailment once.

Well written poem depicts this theme spot on.
