that is so cute. You have probably started a new fad.
That's what may have happened with mine. reviewers said they were going to use it. Tickled me to death.
I'm not familiar with kench, but it sounds like a fun word to use and surely needs to be brought out into the light. Next thing you know we'll be saying again words like "swell!"
good luck.

a spate of chuckling here :)
( I think that means outbreak, lots of)
    hey - that's a good word .

reply by the author on 30-Aug-2017
May it become a full blown spell of kenching! Spate of chuckling is a good beginning...but it's not a real kench. At least you didn't chortle...that's a word I've always hated and for absolutely no other reason than its sound.

reply by pome lover on 30-Aug-2017
it sounds sort of unrefined, kind of plebeian - kind of like a cow chewing its cud. chortle chortle. Now I'm a snob.

reply by the author on 31-Aug-2017
so how to feel about 'snicker' and not the candy bar...?

reply by pome lover on 31-Aug-2017
I've never written it in a story - never thought of it, to tell you the truth, but I like it. I write mostly for kids and they DO snicker. Good for you. Thanks.

Kench does have a nice crackling sound which makes me think of a crocodile eating an arm or a leg. Too harsh to replace laugh with it's liquid L.
On the other hand, to laugh loudly can be extremely annoying. There's a resident here whose kench makes me wince.
A nice entry, JB. Unfortuantlely, I don't have the time right now to think up something clever like this.

Hugs,
Mama

Your review is clever enough for me. Your dispassionate description of a croc eating and arm or a leg makes me wonder if you have witnessed such? Or even been involved in getting rid of someone who kenched to loudly and once too often??

But Mama could never do such a thing...could she? :) Clark Kent (looking nervously over his shoulder) Thanks for reviewing!

reply by Spitfire on 29-Aug-2017
You're right. Mama would never do such a thing, but LL might just to see Superman in action. LOL

reply by the author on 30-Aug-2017

D.,

Ouch!! I'm glad I didn't read this before I created my entry -- or wait... maybe I'm sad that I didn't see this. Hmm... either way -- I'm in trouble, obviously.

Tell you what. If you'll shout HUZZAH if I win then I promise to kench with gusto if you do.

Haha!! (Oops. Already started. That's not a good sign, huh?)

Oh well.

One note:
1.) finding a word worth(y) of rescue

Thanks a heap and (just a little!) good luck!!

I sense a reluctant admiration which, after all, is the sweetest kind. :) Especially, since it's a two way street...see you at the finish line prepared to kench with you or shout HUZZAH with equal gusto. Thanks for reviewing and God bless you, Dennis

Oh my goodness I cannot think of an author I would rather read. You are both intelligent and hilarious...my 2 favorite things to find in an author. So glad I found you. You may have given my the best kench of the day.

A very well-written poem and an excelkent explanation of the word kench. It is always good for the soul to kench. It builds friendships and help us to kench together. (Kench/ lol) hahahaha

Love it! I like the humor and the conversational tone of this piece sprinkled with all kinds of candidates for words on the verge of extinction. I especially liked your simile: "like a sleeve on a bramble bush," as this happens often as I walk past blackberry bushes. I say keep "kench" because it works well in rhymes:
A man on a bench
Dropped his allen wrench
A woman did kench
He said, "Pardon my French."

Thanks for this word Dennis, it is certainly worthy of an "airing", I've used ken before, (also a good word, infrequently used). Somebody came up with a beauty yesterday...flaughter, an ancient word for flutter. I wonder if "maughter" is mutter? Incidently flaughter is also a modern word for "a spade to harvest peat", fancy that! Well done Bro, an excellent entry in this contest, good luck, blessings, Roy.

    Hi Roy,
Words are fascinating and so changing in English of course. I wonder about the rate of change in other languages??? In any case, I hope you enter one of these words and argue for it's further existence. :) God bless, my good brother, Dennis

Liked the word, Deniz - interesting choice. Can we "kench" at a comedy club? Or a party? Or does it have to be an outburst when reading?
Good luck in the contest.

Good questions...one factor in kenching is an unexpected outburst of laughter, so apparently it could be anywhere any time. Thanks for reviewing! Dennis
