Excellent picturesque word imagery
the poem is vividly descriptive of this event
The reference to the "satisfies foul devilry." is very good as it's origing being a pagan festival
nice entry

This is my favourite time of year and i thought your poem summed the season up very well.
Whether you"re painting with a brush or with words you painted a wonderful picture of this time of year.
I am quite new to fan story and in awe of some of the works i read, quite easy to see why you enjoy your high ranking on the fan story ladder.
Great job....well done.

Hi Marilyn,

Nice to see a Halloween theme :) Last year I did a Halloween poem twice a day for the whole season, but this year I'm just not there. Heavy sigh...

As a whole I enjoyed your poem. I thought you gave us a great taste for the season.

You have fine abab rhymes for the contest. I'm not so keen on worth and forth, but I suppose it fits in the near rhyme category. I really like your coolish and ghoulish combination. I get a kick out of inventive words. It adds a heightened sense of fun :)

I'm not sure about, "cackingly". I thought it was cackle which would translate to cacklingly? What do I know. Just an observation I thinking out loud.

I love, love, love your line, "Come witches' tour de force" - what an excellent visual that conjures in my mind.

Well done. Best wishes in the contest.

Sincerely,

Joy xx

Hi Joy. Thank you for your nice review. I read many poems with made-up words and LUV them when others do it. It adds a certain pizzazz that I enjoy, especially in lighter works. Heck if Dr. Seuss could do it, why not little old me? Marilyn

This reminds me of Brooke. She loved fall and Halloween and wrote many Halloween poems:)

Yours is very good in abab rhyme. Good luck Marilyn in the contest.

Hi Teresa. I didn't know Brooke, but know that many here on the site loved her work and her personally. Thank you for your nice review of my poem. I'm on my third foot/leg cast and will have it for another 3 weeks or so. So far, so good. Marilyn

A great picture that complements your poem very well. I did not realise till your foot note that you meant the time change by clocks fall behind. A lovely poem with ABAB rhyme for the month and Halloween. Best wishes for the contest.

Marilyn,

A very fun poem announcing the arrival of Halloween and the entrance of allllll those wicked witches and their black-hearted and darkly-dressed cohorts. I can't believe the time is right upon us! The new year was just here!!! Oh my. How my days rush by now. --sigh--

Lovely entry for the contest. Good luck!

This four-stanza, ABAB poem, Thirty-one Days of Revelry, inaugurates the new season of creep, dark corners, foggy graveyards, carved faces in lighted pumpkins, and various assaults o the easily frightened psyches of practically everyone. (Maniacal laughter)

An enjoyable poem and a good start to the early days of October.
I like, 'voices cackling ghoulish.'
Very appropriate illustration.

Hi Marilyn, a well written abab rhyme for the contest entry. A good topical subject well described. I did not know you had a time change - I thought it was just us, in Britain! Good 6/8/6/8 syllables maintained throughout and the whole is a good read. Good luck and warm regards Dorothy x

Hi Dorothy. Thank you for your nice review. Yes, we have a time change in the spring and fall. I think most people would just prefer to stay on the same time all year round. Marilyn
