We must be about the same age. The times sound so familiar and the age too. This moved me so much. Just beautiful. I had a secret love at that age and it is still a secret. Hehehe. One day I may tell him. I loved this. NG

War in any form is terrible. Somehow or other I missed most of it the second I was born, Korea I was in school, Vietnam seemed somewhat nebulosus Now as an adult they seem just as horrible. Well written.

Oh you know it, about War, Mabaker, even when they're far away it's still terribly upsetting. But it seems to continuously going on somewhere. :( Much appreciation for a fantastic review,

I should wait so I don't go on and on ... but, I'll try and hold back. An easy read, captivating and engaging. Of course it hits home to my generation having lived it one way or another. I'll ignore the history as I'm sure many will address it. Beautifully captured I will say.
This all rings true and I'm guessing it is mostly true. You rightly depict the young woman as having real feelings and intellect. That is so often missed by authors and it's a disservice to young people. Her reactions and actions are poignantly real and touch the heart.
I LOVE the fox and your trust in the readers intelligence by NOT elaborating or explaining anything about it. Yes!
You show soooo much about the young woman and who she might become most pointedly that she is a young woman and not a child.
Well, I can see this is already LONG, so I'll go stand in the corner and mutter to myself about the rest of my fabulous musings. LOL

Hey, many thanks for an exceptional rating Mav. The fox was a real fox of course so there wasn't really anything to elaborate on except for it got tied to a parking metre. Thank you so much for a fabulous review. :))

I doubt a wild fox would just sit there. Whatever. I just read more into it then was there. Planet Mike. LOL

A wonderful story, well written, about a young girl's first love. It also tells a lot of history of the times, the way people felt about the world around them.

At the time of that war, I was a Navy wife, hoping my diver husband wouldn't be called to go to Viet Nam. I lost a lot of family and friends over there.

You said this is fiction, but it feels so real. The little girl telling the story seemed to be sitting next to me, and I could share her feelings. Excellent.

Thank you so very much for an exceptional rating and lovely review, Yvonne. It's reality based fiction, which means most of it is true, but on account of because a few things I couldn't remember exactly it wouldn't pass the very strict test of non-fiction.

You are terrific and always appreciated my friend.

Gloria, your story struck a cord on so many levels with me. I too love the book Steppenwolf. I too had a small black transistor radio that I put under my pillow and listened to the Beatles. I served for 24 years in the US Navy but if I had known that there were so many pretty Canadian girls on the lookout for draft dodgers...I may have made a trip to Canada myself.

Thank you so much D&V. So glad to hear you also enjoyed reading Hermann Hesse. Those were the days with those tinny transistor radios, eh? Nah. I much prefer the pristine sounds of now.

    Much appreciation my friends.
