hahahaaaa... "Infestation Friday" ... I can't breathe. LOL! Amazing. I want to join your family. Must be like living with Dave Barry. Or better yet, Mark Valentine, my new favorite writer. :)

Thanks for digging back to find this one and taking the time to read for the measly two cents it paid - over and above the call of duty!

I can just see this being performed on stage.
Your write includes the emotion and emphasis
throughout. This was a wonderful script to read,
Mark and I found no errors and I think I read carefully.
This clearly demonstrates the quality of your script
writing. -Bill

So adorably funny! I'm still laughing! Reminds me of several comedic interactions with our family... especially the ones where secrets "accidentally" are revealed, who suffers most during pregnancy, extra stash of goodies hidden away and speaking about the kids as if they weren't there to listen! Favorite new word: Festivation Friday (aka as Hesitation Friday)!

Loved this well-written Thanksgiving story of the Valentines!

Thanks, Mimi. These are fun to write (and easy, too given that they are mostly true). Thanks so much for the six!

Very interesting dialogue is presented in this piece. It was less than typical of a family gathering. The personalities shone as the evening progressed with give and take. Very well written.

Thank you for including me in your family holiday. My family is all dead now, but things used to be a lot like yours except for the cigarette smoke that filled the living room causing both my dad and brother to die of lung cancer (true). Can hardly wait until the Christmas reunion. I'll just RSVP right now. B.B. Rose

Thanks for the six and for reading. The girls are back at school now, but will be in again for Christmas - hopefully providing more comedic material for one of these pieces.

Nice work, Mark! I have always enjoyed this series of scripts. Great humor! That's what she said, head trauma for boy, statue of limitations. All good stuff.

Take care,
Russell

This is an interesting scene for an interesting family.
The family banter is believable and humorous.
The characters are clear and eady to see.
Well done.

Thanks, Sharon. These are borderline non-fiction, so I'm glad the humor comes through.

This sounds WAAAAY too real to be a work of fiction, Mark. (My husband bought one of those flashlights, by the way. No warranty though, unfortunately. It conked out after a few days!) I have a twenty year old. I feel your pain, honey. What a delightful, fun piece. You could well be spying on my family. Beautifully written, too, by the way!

It is, as you suppose, very much based on reality - the flashlight, the involving my kids in lying about how much we paid for a tree, the wife who dishes out medical advice because she was pre-med in college - all true. Alas, the girls went back to their colleges yesterday, but they'll be back in a few weeks for Christmas and maybe that will supply material for the next installment.

Thanks so much for reading, and for the six!

Mark,

WHO are YOU??!! Who on earth actually LIVES this way?? I love it! I want to come and stay for the Christmas holidays when all the Valentines are together again. I can't wait - I'm going to log off now and start booking flights to Chicago. This will be AWESOME!

I didn't mention in the piece that my mom also lives with us - that would make your visit a little less awesome. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but fun? Not so much.

Alas, the girls returned to their respective colleges today ( but they'll back home again in a couple of weeks, perhaps providing material for another "Scenes".

    Sorry about Auburn.

Must give this a six simply for the good laugh it gave me. Besides, it's so well written, it deserves a six.

It's so realistic, and I love the banter among the family members. Poor dad trying to get everything to celebrate some together, even 'Festivation Friday.' LOL
