Good afternoon, Barbara

Enjoyed the poem and the 'Texas' rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Whomever decorated the cactus my be quite brave or immune to pain or both.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Barbara.

Take care and stay safe,

Ray

In my opinion, I truly regret disagreeing with you, Barbara, but you ARE indeed a poet, in addition to your other writing - this is enchanting, engaging and just downright superb in word and presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed my read - thank you for sharing, and a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours...

As a fellow Texan, I can relate to the charming poem with all it's Texas images.

I can, also, relate to the fact we have no snow. Even what was forecast for Christmas seems to have trickled away. Oh well, I have family coming from out of town, so maybe they will bring it with them. They live in Maryland.

Thanks for the fun poem.
Rhonda

A Merry Christmas to you and your family in Texas from a strange rainy not hot South Africa. Most of the animals you mention we either don't know or only seen on pictures.

Barbara, you could write your way out of a steel trap and do a damn good job of it. Love your 12 days of Christmas poetry coming from Texas. Loved it! xoxo d

Well you might not consider yourself a poet, but this is really good. It's a unique take on an old classic. Entertaining, fun, and tells us a little about Texas.
Merry Christmas!
Michael

Heck, I thought this was darn good, Barbara and very inventive.
Using critters from the area where you live in place of the ones in the actual song is a novel idea.
I felt most of the animals you mentioned were pretty docile...UNTIL I got to lines number nine through eleven:
"On the eleventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to enchant:
11 Kinds of rattlesnakes:
10 Mountain lions:
9 Alligators:
8 Bottlenose dolphins:
7 Wild javelinas:
6 Leather-neck sea turtles:
5 Black-Tailed prairie dogs:
4 Jack rabbits:
3 Horned lizards:
2 Road runners:
and an Armadillo under a Yucca plant"

OUCH, heh-heh!
Great work.
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
~Dean :)

We actually have an armadillo living under our Yucca. One night my husband chased it around the yard trying to get a photo. Another evening after dinner my son, Steven, then in high school, took the garbage out after dinner and said, "Mom, there's a steer in our front yard." I told him he's lived in city too long and it's a deer. He replied, "No, Mom, there's a steer." My husband went to look. There was an actual longhorn in our front yard. He called the police and they said, they don't do livestock and not to worry will will go back home. Come to find out our county have free range laws, or no fences. We've also had issues with cougars eating small dogs and cats. The police said, keep your pets inside until the cougar moves.

Hah! Oh, that's just great, Barbara. Thank goodness we don't have cougars here where I live.
My poor Gidget would be a goner!
We do have a bad coyote problem however.
Many pets that remain outdoors have come up missing as of late.
I NEVER allow Gidget to go outside to do her business after dark. I tag right along with her--flashlight in hand.

LOL! WOw! Glad I don't live in Texas. Alligators and snakes and mt lions--oh my! You did a good job of putting in your local "gifts" ... I like it better than the old classic, since who wants to see maids a milking or fairies dancing or whatever bizarre things they had when it was written. :)

Barbara,
This was so much fun to read. I live in Texas & can 'see' everything you mentioned. I LOVE it. The picture of the cactus with Christmas lights is beautiful. The desert has its own beauty if people would take time to look.

I enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing. Jan
