Hi Dean, wow...how neat is this post? I just love sonnets, though, I have no clue as to what the rules are. I need to study I guess. I do know this reads well and as always, love your imagination and skill! Sigh...

People do strange things for so many different reasons. One may never know why. Drink had ruined many a man and let t be his downfall into the deep depths of hell.

This is another excellent poem which you have written about Poe. One might say, you are in the know regarding Poe. I like the way you weave together his talent with his alcoholism.

This poem made me smile, my friend. I like the way the picture turned from a man into a skeleton. Everyone has a dark side, I found this revelation profound. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

An excellent photo of this guy with a black raven on his shoulder, that complements your poem perfectly. What do you mean by baleful bard?
It is a perfect written Sonnet. The right rhyme and meter. A twist after the second stanza and then a rhyming finishing couplet. One tip: the title should not be in the space for the poem. Best wishes for the contest.

Baleful, meaning sad. And a bard is a poet.
Hence, a sad poet, which Edgar Allan Poe definitely was.
    Thanks for reading, Ine.

Ok, my eyes are flashing! But your poem is interesting, informative, a fitting tribute to a great master of poetry and horrors. As far as I can tell with my limited knowledge it follows the sonnet format well. Best of luck in the contest! Evi

The Baleful Bard, sounds like he was a troubled character.
Great Sonnet can't pick my favourite lines because they are all excellent.
Wonderful contender for a six and no doubt a contest winner. Good luck Dean.

Ooooo...I really love this Sonnet poem you've penned on Poe, Dean. You brought out the colors of his work in this piece wonderfully. Perfect picture white the black and white as well. Good luck. Hugs! ~Kerry

    Oh, Kerry.
You're spoiling me, you know that?

Remember what Hannibal Lecture said to Agent Starling when she came to visit him in the cage in the film, 'Silence of the Lambs'?
Lecter All this way just to bring me some drawings? How... thoughtful of you. Did Crawford send you?
Claurice No, I wanted to...I came on my own.
Lecter People will say we're in love.

    Heh-heh...
    Thanks so much, Kerry.

In my opinion, obviously written by a wordmaster, this poem is a stunning example of the sonnet, perfect in rhythm and rhyme. I too wonder about this poet and his poetry, who or what was his muse, really. Historically we will never know, but for the fact the answer lies within his poems...
