This is lovely, RG! Your words give beauty and grace to aging as well as an appreciation to the aging of a love between a couple. If a couple can stay together, grow old together, and still have their love grow and deepen, well, that is a most wonderful thing, and something to be cherished and thankful for. It is, when we are old, that we really do appreciate all the little things in life.

Beautifully written and presented. I especially love "The sinking of the sun in waltz with the waking of the dawn" ... so poetic ... so lovely ... yes, when we age we appreciate so much more than what we did when we were young. ~~ Connie

Just lovely, RG. I very much enjoy the softer tones alluded to with the rain and yet still the days of cheery youth in red.

I always say love gets better with age and you have illustrated this beautifully in another masterpiece.

Thank you for sharing this fine work of art.

Gloria

How beautiful this is! a stunning and emotional tribute to the aging process (mine is currently in escalation...). It's lovely to see your acknowledgement of all of the color and glory of aging, and I thank you! Caroline

PS What is the purpose of "be" at the end of first line. It doesn't seem to fit. cz

Be' Caroline is just a another word for is, and in this context is an old English way of stating the obvious. Just poetic.
Thank you so much for the support and six stars.
    My very best to you.

I admired your reflections about growing older. Your imagery, from the "abalone" shell to "caterpillar" and the "concerto" are splendid. Your selection of the drawing was reinforcing as well. Smiles- Joan

So sweet ... your words, your thoughts, your poetry. About beautiful things, wonderful love, perfection. you have expressed love beautifully ... as it grows, as it exists, as it matures to ... this. Very nice

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
In youth, love and lust are often confused.
As one is lost, the other becomes misused.

Last week a blogging friend asked this question: What five things make you smile, every time you see them. I left out the obvious reply - my children and grandchildren enjoying themselves; that goes without saying. The first of my list of five was this: An elderly couple holding hands. Few sights make me happier than seeing elderly couples who still have that spark of love. It shines out for all to see, and it is a joyous sight.

Although most of the lists which were posted had much in common with each other, nobody else came up with that one.

And now I come here and find your beautiful tribute to enduring love; that, too, made me smile. You have a gentle heart, my friend. It is a privilege to know you, and to have the opportunity to read your words.

Warmest regards
Jane

Hi, RG:
Beautiful, as always. Very poignant thoughts about aging and the worth of the changes. I especially liked the part about the dimming of the gold in the wedding ring. Worn gold has a different sheen, but it is still beautiful.

Thank you for sharing,

~patty~

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
In early April I hope to reach my 75th birthday, my wife and I have been a couple since 1972. I love her deeply, we don't act like we did when we first got together, but in many ways we are still the couple we started out as. In many ways we are still as fun loving as we always were, our adult children and grandchildren reflect our sense of humor and love and for me that is the greatest testament. I absolutely love your incredible skill at phrasing. there is a beauty in the way your words flow within your beautiful stanzas.

This is a lovely verse and I think it would wonderful to music.
Well done and well said.
Growing old gracefully is not as easy as it sounds, but you've made sound nice.

Not graceful as we have so many things, apart from the inevitable, yet, if we allow ourselves to focus on the now rather than what is to come, perhaps we can find solace, as well happiness.

    My best wishes.
