Oh, Sandra, I had to smile when I read this because I had written a poem on the same subject which, naturally, was expressed quite differently. Since I'm not posting at this time, I'll give you the title (which says it all, haha). 'Mother Nature's Such a Bitch.'

Anyway, this piece truly reflects your sweet, sentimental nature. It is written in perfect meter and you chose your words carefully.

Although it's rather a sad lament, its tone is one of acceptance. Yes, there will be more 'chill of winter days,' but the final line rings with optimism and hope for 'new beginnings on the way.' Well done, Sandra.

I don't think standard members have the option of awarding six stars. It has not come up with anything I've reviewed. Just know that I think this is sixer worthy. Hugs, Lou

LOL, I want to read that one, will you post it? I love the title, it is soooo you! You always did have me curled up laughing and I can quite believe your words would be slightly different to mine! LOL. Thank you again, my wonderful friend for digging into my portfolio to read this one. I must start writing some more.
I've just looked into your profile, but all your work has gone, at least, we can't read it. If you come back, go into your portfolio and click on 'disabled' and get them back again.

I'm quite enjoying the heat-wave we're having here in the UK, it's so unusual. Sending you a humongous hug. :) Sandra xxxx

reply by Louise Michelle on 28-Jun-2018
Yeah, my style of writing is slightly different from yours, haha. I really appreciate your kind words, but I'm probably going to spend the next year just reading, which means I can't post unless I pay. After that, we'll see.

I disabled all my stuff because I'm submitting to e-zines and can't have them floating around.

Enjoying a heat wave, eh? Why don't you come down here to Houston where it stays in the high 70's all night.

If you write new poems, that will be great, but I'll still poke around your portfolio. It's a pleasure to read your work - you're such a good writer. And I'm a better reviewer when I don't feel under the gun to HAVE to read. See you soon. Hugs, Lou

reply by the author on 28-Jun-2018
That would be a good idea for me. Sell some to e-zines, I could do with some extra cash for those little luxuries like 'food'! Only kidding, but some extra cash coming in now and again, would not be frowned upon. I'm glad you're still writing, you have a unique talent. Humour poetry and short works are hard to do, but you do it with ease. Thank you for the compliment, I'm sitting here quite chuffed, the head has swollen! LOL. :)) xxxxx

reply by Louise Michelle on 29-Jun-2018
Oh, dear, I hate to burst your balloon but the majority of e-zines don't pay. I once got $3 for a poem and $10 for a flash fiction story.

I've been submitting on and off for the last 30 years. I'm doing it again now just to give myself a reason to keep writing. Not that I'm writing a lot, just enough to keep the wheels greased.

If you ever have the time and inclination, Google e-zines to see what's out there and where your work would fit.

Another thing you might want to look into is writing for greeting cards which do pay. I submitted some short, humor lines to a few companies, but didn't sell anything. There's one called Blue Mountain something or other (in the states) which loves the types of poetry you write. I'm sure there's a bunch of greeting card companies in Europe you could explore.

Congratulations on having your poem well received in the contest. I admired your alternating rhymes in these quatrains. Your vivid "checkered fields" and repeat were quite effective. Cheers- Joan

This poem shows the 'moods' of Mother Nature well. It depicts the results of her storms on live and also the hope that a new day brings. A little warmth in winter surely does make people a lot happier.

Congrats of placing second in the contest.

Keep writing

Joan

I lived in a similar place as I grew up, nothing compared to it as all the seasons change. When the corn was harvested and the farmers made haystacks, my uncle and I would go and play on them, then have to hide when the farmer came near. LOL< my uncle was only a year older than me, so he thought he was the boss. Hmmm I soon put him right! Such lovely days, how I'd live to live them again. Thank you, my lovely friend, for another fabulous review.Biggest hugs, and sooo much lovely back! :)) Sandra xxx

Hi, Sandra;
This is absolutely beautiful. I could feel the rhythm of the lines and your rhyming pattern was really strong. The bitter cold of winter could be felt in the stanzas. Good luck in the contest,

Excellent Poem! The author's words are clear, interesting and creative.
The reader pondered on the words of this poem. Yes, each day is
a new beginning. Living in the moment is key for me. The artwork
is beautiful and compliments your poem well.

These quatrains take the reader on a journey through a natural landscape portraying the might and power of Mother Nature in all Her glory changing and altering the scene by turn 'she can destroy, then put things right'

This poem, New Beginnings, creates a scene of ravaged fields which have not shown fruits of labors lost. One hopes that failed crops can be the fertilizer for the next seasons crop. Nice poem.

I think that is the one good thing about a ruined crop, it will fertilise the next seasons crop. Nature can be cruel and kind. Thank you, Bill, for your lovely review. Big hugs. Sandra xx

I enjoyed reading your contest entry. It went full circle from harvest being sparse to the hope of future harvest. I know that's a farmers wish. I wish you luck in with the contest.
