This is such a sad poem. This person have had bad luck in love to be alone for life. I hope he/she has friends and a other family to love and visit periodically.

Keep writing

I think some people set their sights too high, Joan. I know of a man, and a couple of women who did that. It is sad. Thank you for reading and reviewing this poem, my friend. I do appreciate it. Big hugs, Sandra xxx

Some people do that and it makes it hard for them to find and accept those who choose them.
    You're welcome, Sandra.

    Have a nice weekend.

Sandra, this is a well written poem of rhyme that tells a story to pull at the heart strings. It offers a glimpse and possible explanation for those who have aged and live alone. It is such a sad piece and the picture chosen solidifies the mood. This poem makes me thankful to have found love and not to be the sad lady depicted. ~DD

Thank you, DD, for your lovely review. As I get older I do think about those who have no one to share there later years with, it is sad. Big hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xx

HI, Beautiful poem underlying feelings of how one feels when life is not shared and the solitude it brings. Often forgotten by others who life is fuller and grasp not. Often there but hidden until at times its too late... ouch. But came across old folks getting together and married at a ripe old age too. But those are the lucky ones. xo

Thank you so much, nartoonla, for your really lovely review. Loneliness must be so sad, and a lot of older people do feel it even if they did find love, but lost it as we all will when one partner passes away. XXX Sandra.

She was probably thinking if sh turned off the lights? A somber, melancholy poem of not lov scorned but, love "never was" Wow! I cannot say that! I certainly had my share of love affairs! Drama all the way! Lol A very excellent poem! Tony

Oh Sandra - how sad! This is exquisite, my friend - I am only sorry I am reviewing it so late. It's deserving of a six, and I do have one left, but it wouldn't promote your lovely poem. I can't offer any excuse- I just can't spend as much time here anymore, but I'm sure glad I didn't miss this beautiful verse. (Are you publishing a book of poetry too? I do hope so! Please let me know if/when you do, won't you?)

(Gosh, I want to slap a six on this so badly, but I've only the one left, Sandra, and it's better used to help someone get to that ever-important front page, yes?)

I totally agree with you, I do the same. I sometimes wish Tom would introduce a system where you can read a work and have a place where we can put those we deem deserves a 6 in a file and on Saturday go to back to them and give out the 6s to the best of those best ones. That way everyone would get the 6 they deserve. I'm really pleased you enjoyed this one, my friend. I'm trying to put together a book of poetry now. I have several so I'm picking out what I feel are the best ones of them. I'll let you know if I succeed, I've never done this myself, so it'll be fun. Big hugs, dear friend. Sandra xx

Lordy, Miss Sandra, you've made me sad with this tale.

Your job is to make me smile and laugh. :-)

I will have to go a huntin' for further adventures of Mildred and Veronica!

Lovely, sad poem.

OMG, that was very poignant and sad, my friend. To be lonely is sad, to be lonely in old age is very sad. What a great way with words you do have and great ideas to write about. To me the most important thing in poetry is emotion.

Hi, Sandra;
I think there are too many women who wait for 'Mr. Right,' only to find they set their sights too high. And then, their fleeting beauty and youth are gone. So, there they sit. I had a dear friend who passed away at the early age of fifty-two. She never married because she hadn't found 'the one.'

I feel really sorry about your poor friend, but you are so right, many do that. But, who can say what makes a man perfect? And would we really want a 'perfect' man? It would mean we would have to be, too! No, not for me! lol. Thank you so much, my friend, for your lovely review. Big hugs! xxx

This poem, A Life Alone, captures the thoughts here of a long-lived soul who finds that true love sometimes is only sought, but often only found after settling on someone who merely loves you. Then, after time, the true love blossoms. Liked this one a lot.

Thank you so much, Bill, for your lovely review. You certainly have the right idea of finding love. Mostly, love grows through the years and is stronger for it when with the right person. Some wait for something that doesn't exist. I'm glad you enjoyed it, my friend. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra. A poignant subject, that can hit some of us when one partner dies. Or just as bad, not to have one in the first place. Such a sad condition.

Again good flow in this poem, well constructed, with a pleasing, easy rhyme.

Like... A wilted flower gone to ground.
My search for love was never found.

How is your book doing?

Yes. If you put my full name in, Sandra Stoner Mitchell, you'll see it straight away. Read some of my reviews, I have 9 in the .co.uk and 4 in .com. I'm hopng to get some more, but I hate sounding pushy, so I tend to shy off. xxx
