Yes, she does look like she is deep in thought this grand old lady and you've done a great interpretation of this picture, and told a sad tale of one who was hoping for love but never quite found it. Sad, but wonderful read, I really enjoyed it.
thanks for sharing,
cheers,

Oh this was so moving. The picture, first off, set the mood for your words. Then, as I read, I could feel her longing and pain. I hurt for her.

This is wonderful writing, my friend. I was touched by this.Great job.

SIX STARS6******Is this your autobiography, Sandra? Is this true? It reads just like my life, though I have had lovers in the past who went astray; however, now, I, too, am alone, but not too lonely. I have 2 security dogs and pets. I don't have to feel worried about a man. WELL DONE. liberty justice

What a lovely review, Liberty Justice! No, I'm not a lonely lady, but when I saw the photo she did look so sad the words fell into place. I think, having once known loneliness myself helped me connect to this lady. Thank you so very much for the 6 stars, my friend. I'm really happy you have your pets, they give so much love and don't want anything back except your love! Warm hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xx

There are so many types of loneliness, Linda, but I think it hits hardest when you suddenly find yourself alone after years of happy marriage, like your mother and my mother did. The fact that mum was surrounded by children and grandchildren who loved her, it was when the door was closed and she went to bed alone, she felt it badly. I know my mum cried herself to sleep many times. I really understand where you're mother is now. I felt that way when my first husband died. That empty chair, that pillow on your bed with no dent in it.... I hope you don't feel that, my friend. I'll have to come over and sit in that chair!!

Thank you so much, my dear friend, for the 6 shiny stars. Love you loads, too. Big hugs to you and your mum. :)) Sandra xxxx

Your book has taken a while to come! Where did you order if from? If you PM me your address, I'll send you a sticker with a personal note on it to go inside. :) xxxxxxx

will do...I got it from Amazon...but I order something else too...I opened it when I got home from church...I love it...I'll read it after dinner...and you are always soooooo welcome my wonderful friend...my mom sounded a little better today...but she goes back and forth...sigh...I know what you mean about the pillow...took me a long time to throw Bobby's out after he died...and I see a show on TV...and they were his favorite...and I look at the sky and say...are you happy now???...he used to smoke...and his diet...OMG...coke. candy, junk food...but he wouldn't listen...sigh...you come over anytime you wish...I'll save you a seat...love you sooooo much...smiling so big you...xxoo Linda

It's simply brilliant how you can see a picture and weave such a touching poem around it, Sandra.

You made me get right into the lady and feel with her.
To me, it seems she weathered it all so very well because she still reads those love poems and everything. She doesn't show any bitterness, just a sweet lament that she never met The One.

A most evocative poem, Sandra. It captures both the sense of regret and the value of books and of poetry to help plug the gaps that sometimes seem otherwise to let our lives seep away.

Hi Sandra,

The picture drew me in to wonder what she's thinking too. I think you voiced her thoughts well to suit the look on her face. I see old age up close each weekend when I visit my uncle in hospital. He's doing okay, and we take turns visiting so he's not too lonely. The eye opening is when we see and hear the other elderly patients on his floor. My uncle is alert and can carry on a conversation. Some of the other patients aren't really there. It's sad. I'm glad I have children and grandchildren that might visit me if I were bed ridden in my old age. Those that didn't marry or have kids will be lonely. I have two uncles and one aunt in their declining health who have no spouse or kids. It's sad.

Good job on this picture and poem. It's good to bring awareness through our poetry.

Joy xx

Old age and loneliness is becoming so common these days, Joy. People are so 'busy' they don't seem to have the time to visit the very people who gave them their love and attention. It's a frightening prospect. The fact your uncle is still very alert and can hold a conversation, is great, but to be with people who can't, must be awful. Thank you so much, my dear friend, for your lovely review. I hope Molly is now fully recovered. :)) Big hugs, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Yes an interesting reflection on a life where love of the romantic variety didn't feature largely - somehow we expect everybody to have some experience of love -'Love's passion always passed me by'- well done

Enjoyed reading this poignant and melancholic poem penned in touching words/framed in meaningful verses and excellent rhyming; "Shy young girl, meets shy young boy,"-should resonate with many readers; thanks for the treat.
