The poem is great. The sound and the image of caramelized by carbon dust!
I can't decide if the poem is stronger or not as strong because it is placed as a part of/after the prose narrative. It can obviously stand on its own as a poem and then the reader can bring all sorts of stories to it.
Thank you for your thoughtful narrative (you wrote 'rental a panel truck' instead of 'rented a panel truck' in that text) and your fabulous poem.

The only good this can do,(if good is the right word) is self examination, and I can see that happened to you. I remember my own epiphany, in which self-examination occurred, it started a search for meaning in a meaningless world, such cruelty, enforced upon us. This is what packs out churches. Well done and an excellent use of words to describe human reflection. Great contrast in the short form haiku, well done, memorable post. Blessings, Roy
Typo :,a twenty five year old student (rental) a panel truck. Rented?

It can actually be either rental or rented, but maybne that's a Canadian thing. Thanks.

A terrible tragedy and your daffodils 'caramelised by carbon dust', is a chilling line and resonates with me, thank you also for your author's notes, love Dolly x

We seem to have an epidenic of these events that are not terrorist related. So very sad. Thanks,

Hi there, what has the world come to. I haven't heard about this attack. So if it wasn't a terrorist attack what was it then. Just some insane person doing it for the hell of it? Oh no, you do explain about the hatred of women. Where will it all end? All the best. Ulla;)))

Just like opiates, we seem to have a mental health crisis. I wonder if it was always so or if this is a result of our world today, but more awareness. It's about time they began research rather than just treating symptoms. Thanks.

This is a very touching account of that terrible tragedy in Toronto. You describe the horror of what took place. It's terrible to think that a madman can do all of this carnage in a matter of ten minutes. Your reaction in the last paragraph is what a lot of people would feel, relieved that it wasn't you or someone close to you. After the 9/11 attacks, I felt that way, glad I was living in a fairly small city in middle America and surely safe form such atrocities. Your Haiku is excellent and reflects your thought in your last paragraph. The daffodils bloom as people die. Life goes on. Wonderful presentation. judi

Thank you so very much. It was a shock this happened in Canada. The country is very welcoming of immigrants, we have 250,000 Syrians since that war began, and racism isn't rampant. Certainly not naive, but we don't expect it/ No one jumped to the conclusion it was a terrorist attack, but it was terrorizing. Me too, a small city a mile outside of Toronto, makes me feel safer, doesn't it?

You're very welcome. Acts from crazy people. We've had our share in the U.S., as in the recent school shootings. Hope this will be the end, at least for a while. judi

Such an awful tragedy, Ingrid. Yes, numbness sets in after a steady diet of horror. Emotional exhaustion. Your "I'm glad it's not me or mine" is a perfectly natural reaction. As for the murderer, maybe his action is an indication of why he couldn't establish a loving relationship. We'll done. :) Nancy

Thanks. Turns out he has Asperger's and aligned himself with a women-hating group called involuntary Celibate. He's alive and I'm sure we'll get the full story when ot goes to trial.

A sick individual for sure. It will be interesting to see if any of the victims had turned him down. No means No! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this sad, unnecessary , heart breaking attack. My heart goes out to the victims and the friends and families. I understand that this does not happen in Canada but now it did. Was he the type of guy that just wanted sex and no relationship? Did not want to take no for an answer? Women were objects of submission to him?

From what has been discovered and released in this short while, he was a loner, likely never approached many women. There were some students who attended high school with him who thought he had Asperger's or was autistic. There's absolutely no evidence this was anything other than random with no actual victim targeted--just women in general. Women aged 20-93. There is no other evidence of an ideology or religious belief he held.

His father was in court while he was charged, weeping profusely. There;s a story here that goes deep but will never be called (rightly) terrorism under legal terms.

    Thanks for stopping by.

That attack was unbelievable. What a madman. He will pay dearly I hope. It takes a real devil to accomplish such a feat.

"hatred of women who denied men sexual favours."?

God bless the families of the injured and dead. God bless the injured parties. Nancy

As you know, the Haibun is my favorite style and you always write the best ones. Heartbreaking news, superb prose on a difficult subject. You prose is short, abrupt and emotionally descriptive. Excellent Haiku too. I am so pleased I have a 6 left to give you for this one. It definitely qualifies as a 6 in my opinion.

Ain't you sweet. Thanks so much. It was a real awakening in Canada, but I'm glad it didn;t fit into a Trump agenda. Thanks for the stars.

I was watching the Trump circus for awhile, but grew tied of the insanity. I recall laughing at his ignorance but the humor quickly disappeared. He may be a buffoon, but I no longer watch because it is no longer entertainment. He is too dangerous to just sit back and laugh at. All I want to know now is that he is found guilty of something impeachable and he gets his ass kicked out of office.

I totally agree .I'd even take Pence for three years over Trump.

A very powerful poem about such a horrendously shocking event. I don't think you should feel shame for your thoughts although I know what you mean and I am sure everyone has the same thoughts. It is human nature. Very well written. Cheers Jen.
