For my cousin, as if from her husband

Such a beautiful, emotional, devotional tribute to your cousin.. and the love that she shared with her husband.. It is so perceptively written, with the pain and pause that he must have been experienced at the loss of his wife.. I feel the pain.. I feel the longing, and you have painted a heart that is pained and lonely.. I just lost one of my babies (MizzKitt, my kitty).. and though some might say there is no comparison to a human tragedy, it is a heartbreak that is just as painful.. and one that is just as real... My sympathies to your cousin's husband.. and he must be beyond touched at the depth, sensitivity and emotion you share in this poem..

I'm so glad to know you could actually feel the emotions in this poem. I have great sympathy for you in the loss of MizzKitt. One day I thought my Skylar was gone forever, perhaps eaten by a mountain lion, and I was truly broken-hearted, so I know how much it hurts to lose the pets we love so much. Thank you for your kind words and the six stars too. I truly appreciate your generosity. MM

I'm so sorry for the loss of your cousin. No doubt
her husband will be comforted by this beautiful
poem - as I'm sure you have captured his feelings
in each line.
The rhyme and meter are perfection, as always.
Nancy

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Linda. I don't really understand death either. It seems so mysterious, but we do have a glorious hope and I'm thankful for that. Thanks too, for giving this six stars. That is so nice! MM

I too know his feelings. After 57 years to a special someone it is hard sometimes. This poem says it all. Thanks you for sharing. It made my day. Hope your friend well.

Thank you Ben. I remember when your wife died. I know it must be extremely difficult after so many happy years together. I'm very glad if this poem touched you a little. Thanks for the kind words. MM

This anapaestic poem is a lovely tribute to your late cousin and you have got the feel of the bereaved husband really well. The last lines of both S2 and S3 seem to be a syllable short. the full anapaest that you are using comes in multiples of three syllables so the nine syllable final lines work best. The final line of S2 stresses the first syllable in an almost dactylic way which I found difficult to read. Maybe with more diligent study I could get it right.

I am sorry for your family's loss and I admire your honoring it with this poem, written from the point of view of your cousin's husband. Your touching words and rhymed, rhythmic quatrains are very evocative. Warm regards- Joan

This is a poem of love and longing. It shows faith in eternal live and love.
The man in this story has a strong heart willing to wait for a heavenly life
together. The scene of smelling the wife's pillow seems more like something
a woman would do. But I guess it works both ways.

Keep writing

Joan

Thank you for your review Joan. You may be right about the pillow, but in this man's case... well, it was not like he did it on purpose, but just put his head on the pillow because he was missing her there. At least, that's how I envisioned it. Thanks for the comments. I appreciate your reviews, always. MM

You're welcome. Maybe he was an overly romantic man.

This is so beautiful. It is the memories that sustain us in times of such grief. The narrator reflects on the wedding and their many years together. He expresses his belief that they will be reunited in heaven. Excellent rhyme, and the internal rhyme in the stanzas works very well. The wording and flow reflect a sense of peace. Exceptional, and definitely six stars. judi

A very well-written heartfelt poem. It is a wonderful gesture and I am sure it is just how he feels but does not know how to excpress his feelings and he will cherish this poem.

What a very moving poem, beautifully written in good abcb rhyme and the rhythm is good and constant throughout. Your author notes explain the reason for your poem. A sad story and you have written the poem, using the words as if from your cousin's husband, with much feeling. A lovely poem. Warm regards Dorothy
