I love the simple, heartfelt tone of this and can see why the judges picked it out as the winner of the Mother's Day contest. Congratulations! Special anniversary days such as this can bring such nostalgic sadness.

Thank you so much, Tony. I do miss her every day, it's the simple things we did together that I miss. I'm glad you liked it, my friend. Thank you. :) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra,

I decided to come back to F.S. just to do some reading and I found this in your portfolio. I remember a past poem you had written about your mother ... I see from your notes it's been four years. The next to last stanza is so poignant. When we lose people we love, it's impossible to forget them and who would want to? Memories can make us smile, no matter how bitter sweet they may be.

I hope this note finds you well and I'll visit again. I really don't think I'm going to join up and post again, however. It's better just to pop in and read when I don't feel under obligation. I'm glad you're letting standard members read your work.

Best Wishes,
Lou

Hi Lou! Lovely to see your name on FS again, Yes, it's been over four years now, and I still miss her terribly. We really were so close. I realise some members either can't afford to join, or have too much on in the real world to spend the time here.

I'm into my novels now, it's a time-travel trilogy which just took off on here. I've been amazed at the reaction. I've just finished the second and will be starting the last book any time now. I'm going to put the first book in the Kindle version on a free promotion next week, just before the second one is published ... if you're interested in reading it. It's not your usual time travelling story and started out as a 3000 word short story, lol, but was encouraged to keep it going.

Thank you for reading mine, my friend, I have really missed you. Your fun poetry used to have me curled up, I used to call you my posh lady friend with a naughty sense of humour! lol. Call again any time! Lots of love and big hugs. Sandra xxxxx

It's so nice to hear back from you, Sandra. I can't make the commitment to reading novels, but I wish you much success on Kindle. If you're not posting much poetry now, I'll dig some out of your portfolio from time to time.

Some of my humorous poetry has appeared in lightpoetrymagazine, which gives me incentive to keep writing. However, I don't push myself - just write when I'm in the mood.

For the last year I've really been into politics. But with a president like Trump, it's more like following a soap opera, LOL. May I personally apologize to you, my British friend, for all his insults to our allies!!! Don't give up on the U.S., he won't be in charge forever.

When you're missing your Mum, just imagine she's right there with you and your having a conversation. That's what I do with my mother. I vividly remember things she had said when something pops up in my life where they would apply. Also, I believe avidly that her spirit does come to visit me. It's such a comforting thought, dear Sandra.

Well, I've talked your ear off enough. I'll visit again soon. Hugs, Lou

Yes, Mother's Day is one of the days that was the hardest right after my mother died.
It does get easier as time goes on, but missing them never goes away. It is good that you had a good mother because the good memories make it easier. My mother died in 2006.

Sorry for your loss.

Keep writing

Joan

Thank you, Joan, for your lovely, kind review. I'm so sorry for your loss, too, my friend. Our mums are irreplaceable, and although it's four years for me, I still find it hard not being able to talk to her and have that laugh we'd share. I expect you still find that at times. Thank you again, my friend. :) Sandra xxx

Congratulations Sandra on a beautiful poem describing how much you miss your "mum". Very poetic and well constructed, I really felt empathy when you said, "you loved me more than anyone I've known".

Hi Sandra, OMG you made me cry! I loved your poem! Well written, heart tugging and it makes me realize as I get older so is my mom which means our time together and our time apart can be easily taken away permanently. Death does not discriminate.

Congratulations on your big win!! It was well deserved! I know your mom is proud of you as well!!
All the best,
Monica

If you have some time, I really would appreciate your feedback on my entry to this content so I can grow as a writer and poet. Thank you so much, Rona

I feel your heartfelt pain over the loss of your best friend. No one can take her place but... her place is with her Lord now. Be happy for the many years you had together, shed no tears for her to weather. For she is shining like a star, look up, look up and see her afar. Love, K.

Thank you so much for the 6 stars, my dear Kay. No, your right, my mum is irreplaceable, What a lovely little poem you put in this review, I must copy that and keep it in my poems for mum. (if you don't mind?) It's over four years, Kay, I don't know where the years went, but it still feels like yesterday she left. Big hugs, dear friend. :)) Sandra xxx

Big hugs back to you. I just posted a short story for my little book Aboriginal Dreaming. Much love, Kay.
Of course you can keep my little poem.
