Thanks for asking/allowing me to check out this Dean.

Lovely poem about your dad. I wouldn't presume to offer advice on an award winner like this. After just a week and some days back following 10 years away from FanStory, I'm still finding my feet again. Well done with this one though. It says everything it ever needed to say and does it in style.

We guys sometimes don't "get around to" saying all the things we want to to our fathers, then one day they aren't there to say it to. That realization of having missed my chance hurt when I lost my father to brain cancer in 2006.

Dad was a champion footballer in his youth (Australian Rules Football for Footscray Bulldogs, Melbourne , Australia) and served on the Australian naval flagship HMAS Shropshire during WW2. Dad's ship was at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay in 1945, at which time he had already served almost 2.5 years at war and had just turned 18 yo. Yep. He signed up (parental consent) aged 15. My hero.

We move on and learn from it.

I reviewed "True Riches" while I was here (no skin off my nose - people are too loathe to do something for nothing nowadays). I'm now off to review another one of yours which I spotted and particularly liked. Stay tuned.

My father was my true hero, Bill.
He was not only an excellent father but a true role model that our entire family looked up to.
He is and will always be sorely missed.
Thanks so much for reading my tribute to Dad.
    It is greatly appreciated.
    ~Dean

Oh, Dean, I'm so terribly sorry you lost your dad. I know just how you feel. This poem is a wonderful tribute to your father, and the love you had for him pours out of your words. You were both lucky, you for having a father as wonderful as he was, and he for having a wonderful son who never let him down. Those nights fishing with your father, are priceless, worth more than all the gold in the world. Keep those memories coming, they will help you through the weeks and months ahead. Big hugs, my friend. xxxx

This is a terrific send up for your father, Dean. It's a great connection between fathers and sons, when it's positive and fulfilling. So sorry for your loss. Glad you had him for a good long time.

Thank you very much for reading, Bill, and for the six stars as well.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
With my dad passing away recently I've fallen a bit behind.
It's not that I don't appreciate your input because I do.
It's just been a little crazy around here lately.
    Thanks so much again.

Hello Dean
Ah and a sigh to your thoughts about your Dad
I picked out part of a stanza that reminded me of my dad-"Son, don't be sorry
for dreaming on a cloud.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, Dean. It is awesome that you had a close and loving relationship with your father. That is anpreciou gift. He sounds like the kind of father every kid dreams of: loving, kind and proud of his boy.

What a loving tribute! It's obvious from all you say that you were very close. I'm not going to nitpick such a heartfelt poem. Suffice to say, your poetry touches me and I like the structured form. Good meter and rhyme. Thanks for sharing. Cowboy.

This is an awesome poem that speaks so highly of your dad. I'm sure that he feels special and loved knowing how much he was highly thought of, appreciated, and loved. I like everything about this Dean! I'm sorry for your loss. May the Prince of Peace give you and yours comfort and Peace in your time of mourning. Great job and well done!
