Bravo, Ingrid! You have done a wonderful job of covering so many of the salient aspects of Trump's presidency in a very informative manner. I try to stay well informed on the various issues and yet your description of the evolving economic relationship between Canada and the US was quite illuminating.

You have provided a wealth of information in a very literate essay, transitioning seamlessly from one vital issue to the next. I'm sure Trump supporters will disagree, but, I appreciate that you tried to give Trump the benefit of the doubt (a difficult thing to do) on several occasions, such as his motivation for wanting to scrap NAFTA.

I agree with everything you said, as you relied on facts and details to back up your points.

I have overlooked the typos in my six star review, because I know it is a result of your eye condition, and I have enormous respect for your courage and determination in not letting it deter you from doing what you love. It does not in the least diminish your talent in the art of persuasive writing.

I wish you all the best in the contest.

The really annoying part of my errors is that I ran this through spell check a dozen times, and spent more time laboriously editing than it took to write it. My keyboard skills have never been great and it frustrates me to the point writing--that I love, it spirrituallu painful.

Tried to reach a broader audience and certainly got some feedback. More interesting is the stat on views. Thanks for the stars and feedback.

While we're chatting...has healthcare gone down the toilet? Why isn't the public still demanding this election promise? Do you know what Debbie and Ben are up to? They've completely slipped below the horizon..

reply by Bananafish308 on 11-Aug-2018
That really sucks. How many times can you possibly spell check, right?

I certainly got the sense that you were trying to reach a broader audience. I read the feedback and I won't comment on some of the reviews, other than to say that there will always be some on this site who will refuse to review a work based on the merits of the writing, and instead review based on their personal feelings about the subject matter.

Regarding healthcare, it appears that it has gone down the toilet. I think it proves what I have always said, that conservative opposition to Obamacare was never able the virtues or detriments (which there are certainly some) of the bill, it was all about political talking points and opposition to Obama, himself. Clearly, if Obamacare was the dire catastrophe they made it out to be, surely they wouldn't have given up and would have found some kind of compromise solution.

I'm sorry, I am drawing a blank. Who are Debbie and Ben? Do you mean Ben Carson? If so, yes he has definitely feel off the radar. Last I heard about him was the furniture scandal.

reply by the author on 11-Aug-2018
Yes, Carson and Devos. We.haven't heard anything from them.

Reviews don't bother me. But some folks surprise me,,,still.I've tried very hard just to understand gow those supporters could and can overlook so much.

reply by Bananafish308 on 11-Aug-2018
Ah, I was wondering if you meant Devos. Yeah, she's fallen off the radar, also. I wonder if they have been told to keep a low profile, since they are both so damn incompetent.

I hear you. I rarely have an opportunity to have a candid discussion with Trump supporters. I would love nothing more than to sit down and have a beer with one of them and try to understand where they are coming from.

Hi there,

A well put together piece which takes a good rounded look at Trump and his influence. I think he has changed America, it remains to be seen what exactly his legacy will be.

A little clean up required-

Like most countries, that are weighinte down by rules - weighted.

too many regulstions hinders initiative - regulations.

The North Americsan Free Trade Agree, emt - Agreement.

Canada has a controlled suply chain of agricultural products -supply.

wants Canada to change a po;icy that has - policy.

has been in place for yesrs.- years.

negotiations with a 'may way or else' attitude - my way?

for brand names, they changes the design--slightly - changed.

secondary lines at a fraction of the cost to sell n the world - sell in the.

who had his own clothing brands made in "China knows full well.
- delete the marks before China here.

as a compromise for other legislation Congress may desperate to enact -may be desperate?

There has never been a time in history when people were subjected to a daily onslaught of politics. - this highly depends on where one lives. Here for example where I live its always been a daily thing and is interwoven into our very fabric & culture. there is no real escape from it.

describe presidential official statements--alternativ facts - alternative.

the press who reported tothese alternativee facts were deemed - reported these alternative...

No matter how deeply this information is buries, - buried.

All the best

Hey Ingrid. There would be so much there to unpack. You definitely pull out the meat when it comes to non-fiction. Medium-rear. I enjoyed getting your perspective from Canada. Trump doesn't really fit the mold of the classic Republican party. But the first person to run on his type of platform was Patrick Buchanan back in the day.
I thought your blood ran Libertarian?

The interesting part of our party system between the conservative party in Canada--versus liberal or labor part---is pretty much grounded in issues NOT muddied by gun rights (solved) health care m (solved 50 years ago) , abortion (solved) gay marriage *solved) or religion (we subscribe to the separation of church and state in all parties). If you remove those issues from the GOP you might well feel what is left is a liberal. I vote for the best candidate and party policy and by US standards I'd be considered an independent--as would most Canadians. There is VERY LITTLE party affiliation and no one has to register AND declare their loyalty to one side or the other.

Yes, I agree the magic of of electing someone who was not a career politician. Too bad about Ross Perot--way backwhen. He too had an enormous portfolio as a successful businessman, but did not take a political party hostage and ran as an independent. In a country raised to be on a 'side', it was hard to accept or for that matter hear what he had to say at the time.

Thanks for your review and thoughtful response.

The three stars are not for the quality of the writing. Twisted pieces of truth throughout. For example, the detention of the undocumented children coming across the border was Obama's law, not Trump's. Very politically charged, critical, and unappreciated in my book.

I'm surprised you were so generous with your three stars/ I would not have been astonished if--even on a writing site--you managed a one star review. Do you not see you are part of the divisiveness problem in your country? By not appreciating how others feel and react to your POTUS. you are enabling the swelling anger to continue. I laid out a lot of FACTS,thoughts and the global impression Trump. Obama is long gone, and he never separated children,no matte what he MAY have been able to do/. I hope you will be able to adopt one of these orphans or would you rather harvest their organs for American patriots?

This is a very penetrating look into the Trump presidency. You give so many details about international trade and the environment that I am not versed on at all. You've obviously given the subject lots of thought. I don't know about the so-called "bromance" between Trump and Putin. Leaders have to do a certain amount of making nice as they try to work with other countries. Remember Hillary Clinton went in with her re-set button, trying to improve relations between the U.S. and Russia? Any victories Trump achieves will be offset by the unbridled way in which he attacks his opponents and the sexual scandals that have been so much in the news. Although past presidents JFK and Clinton had problems dealing with their marital infidelities, Trump has been the one who brags about what he has gotten away with. I cringe when I see Trump on the world stage or watch his performances at his frequent rallies. It's okay for reporters to be called out if they don't have their facts right, but calling them the enemy of the people is too much. I had better stop before I ramble on too much. I don't approve of Trump and didn't vote for him, but I don't think he'll end civilization as we know it. Excellent work. I noticed several typos, which probably go to your eye condition. Glad you are still writing, and hope you continue. judi

Thank you very much for the stars and sharing your thoughts. The tragedy is that you can listen and hear what I'm saying because we share some concerns. Those completely bewitched by the showmanship take any resistance--or information not supporting their blind faith--as bashing. I made a real effort bot to dwell on integrity issues so that it did;t come across as a rant. Thanks again.

Ingrid, let me be the first red blooded American who applauds you and your missive and your thoughts around every corner. You are an amazing writer when it comes to the genre of argument.
There maybe the Trump supporters who negate this but they cannot whatsoever negate the professionalism in this writing. An added note is your ability to write with your current condition. This is a double bravado.

As an American, I concur with you 100%. I, also, formed my opinion of the disgusting man, his character, his values a longggg time ago.

Never in my observation of Presidential conferences and speeches have I heard one so arrogant and constantly , incessantly praising himself and negating other great men.

Your last statement sums it up beautifully and obviously with a humble heart.

You have every right to feel as you do. Canada is a wonderful neighbor, and the U.S. is an oversized elephant, but today, this elephant has clumsily , boisterously, arrogantly become too gluttonous and Canada has every right to be concerned that our elephants shit is going to land right on you.

Well I could go on and on. But no need.

Take care

Thank you so very much for chiming in, Jimi/ I honestly tried to bring information forward , and both declared my both my citizenship and my feelings about the man. I have never thought I was critisizing America, but most people think I am Maybe I'm wasting my resources,

I do appreciate your nod of support/.

You were not criticizing America. You were stating a daunting truth. And what if you were? Are we so arrogant and almighty that we feel America is the he all end all! That?s frightening!

America does not have a beautiful young history. It?s nothing to be proud of. Many upon many have forgotten what the engraving on the Statue of Liberty says. It was to be a proud mantra , but it?s never been the case. We were a founding nation of immigrants save for the native Americans who were robbed of their heritage. English was a more pervasive language but not everyone?s language even 150 years ago. Chinese on one coast, Italians on another, what gives? Unbridled patriotism is a fearful thing. Feeling of superiority and undying loyalty to a cause is reminiscent of Hitler, of Stalin. I could go on and on

Hi Ingrid, this is an excellent entry into the Non-Fiction writing contest. You've laid out your premise and backed it up with supporting arguments well, and with a fairly well-rounded approach.

I noticed quite a few typos and I know this is because of your Macular Degeneration, and I am just in such awe of you to do as well as you are doing. Bravo to you! Your determination is to be applauded. Here's the list which isn't much, but I included large enough sentence segments the typos would be easier to find, I hope.

Car manufacturers were not thrilled, not (nor) were LA citizens who are old enough to remember the severity of the smog.

Canada to change its business practices with regard to our (its) ownresources.. (.)

I suggest spelling out NAFTA the first time and then using the acronym thereafter.

or==(--)to be charitable--how misinformed Trump continues to exhibit. (be) or expand the thought.

The Chinese soon caught on, and while still manufacturing for brand names, they changes (changed) the design

at a fraction of the cost to sell n (on) the world market

There are shameful aspects to the first eighteen months of this president's term - a connecting sentence from the previous paragraph seems to be begging to be written here, something like In addition to uncertain economic growth there is also shameful aspects to the first etc. etc.

Kelly-Ann (Kellyanne) Conway to invent a word to describe presidential official statements--alternate (alternative) facts.

No matter how deeply this information is buries, (buried) if found to be true could lead to questions about his motives in courting Putin.

Cornered, he's reluctantly relented and now continues to beat the drop (drum?) --"no collusion,"

That said, a terrific essay and I wish you great good luck in the contest.

This sucks. I hate people who bash our President. Grow up. The elections over and your side lost. I'm certain you would be happier with lying Hillary. She claimed she was named after Sir Edmund Hillary. He died before she was born She would choke on the truth.

There are several things I'd like to say in response to your review. The most obvious, id you read this carefully, is that I have NO SIDE. I am a Canadian and expressing an well-informed, but obviously not yours, opinion on Trump's performance on the world stage.

This is a writing site and you fail to justify your review on the quality of the writing. Trump is impacting my life in a negative way and whether you like it or not, he represents you. I've carefully detailed facts I'm sure you weren't aware of, but your loyalty is admirable. I certainly hope your blind faith is merited Somehow, I doubt you read the entire essay.

Hi there, my first reaction to this well written and well argued essay is that I think Trump is an embarrassment to USA and a threat to the rest of us. I don't like the man and I will never trust him. However, I'm not blind to what you're saying that maybe his stirring up the water is what is needed to wake up a slumbering giant. As you so poignantly say: provided Trump does not blow us all up in the process,

And herein lays the US dispute with our lumber and the metals industry. = And herein lies the US ...
'may way or else' Do you mean 'make way or else'

Although I've lived all my life in Europe, I'm half American and have a brother and family in the US.

A great essay andd good luck in the contest. All the best. Ulla:)))
