Hi, Ingrid. Been a while. So sorry to hear about your macular degeneration. I have macular fibrosis and am monitored all the time for that and glaucoma. Rather scary. But so far ok.
So sorry about your family's loss. What a gaping hole to try and fill. She sounds like a wonderful person to have graced your lives.

I think she saved the children...I really do. Aiden is now 13 and Alexis is 10. Laura gave then a solid foundation and they both know we were like sisters, so they know I get it all.

Thanks so much for the stars.

Hi, old friend. I haven't heard from you in ever so long. This story is touching and well written. I enjoyed every word. I haven't been on this site much this year either. I'm having some major and painful back issues. The pain has often been excruciating and I can't think clear let alone write. Hope to get it under control soon. Best of luck in the contest.

We're falling apart. I have develoded Macular Degenration and my impairment makes it very hard reading and editing, a very frustrating life challenge. Pain like yours is truly disabling. Marijuana? I'm not joking.

Thanks for the stars. Very much appreciated.

This is a marvelous and deeply moving tribute to a woman that left her mark on everyone she knew. It brought tears to my eyes as I felt I lost a friend too This is a beautifully written entry for this contest and I sincerely wish you all the best. I do miss your posts but I understand the difficulty not being able to see the keyboard or screen. My retinal degeneration is moving at breakneck speed in my left eye and it won't be long before I loose the sight completely. I don't post as much as I used to because editing my work has become next to impossible. Take care and know I love and miss you very much.

Two curmudgeons living thousands of miles apart yet travelling the same journey/. Yes, the editing is a killer--of spirit. Thanks for the stars. Hugs.

We learn through loving and learning that we all must prepare for the unexpected. Laura was a gem and she will be missed by all but you will fill the void as best as you know hoe. God bless you my dear friend

The depth of this piece is quite wonderful. You enunciate extremely well, and obviously have full control of your pen. Or your keyboard! I enjoyed the wisdom and the truth of your thoughts. You use words efficiently and creatively without the flowery prose which can sometimes smother the deeper message of a serious piece such as this.

Your friend sounds like quite the lady, one who has left behind a valuable legacy. I am sorry for your loss.

I did notice one little error:
she couldn't stop shaking or get war. - I assume you mean warm?

All the best,
Em

Laura will live on in your memories that you have with her. I'm glad you were able to be part of her, and she yours, for the amount of time you were given. I have tears in my eyes and I don't even know her. *Hugs to all*

Thank you so much for the kind words and generous stars. I wrote much of this the day Laura died, consumed by the loss--especially to my gtranchilren who lost two mothers. Hugs.c

At first, I thought this would feel so heavy but the way described Laura and the love she created, and gave, made me all in. I'm glad you shared this important connection with someone special. I'm thinking when we don't show up on fanstory for years then suddenly reappear one can finally say what Mark Twain once said, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Blessings between the bookends!

I have developed Macular Degeneration, a vision problem that continues to try to steal my ability to write. Reading is very hard. Editing is tortture. Not many of us oldies left and I'm not caught up in the ranking game. Thanks for the read.

This is a very touching story, and should rank right up there in the contest. You really do an excellent job of bring out Laura's character and the impact she had on children's lives. Examples of your granddaughter's calling her "my Laura" and saying her eggs were better than yours. It seems that her wisdom came from within her, not from education she'd acquired. You also show your own feelings about her very strongly. I felt that the beginning with your own background might be condensed a bit, if you want the focus to be on Laura. Best of luck! judi

Hi Ingrid, what a change in your life this must represent, and what a tragic loss of Laura, who really was the mother of the children. What I'm curious about. Is there a father about? All the best. Ulla:)))

My son is the single custodial father and had them alone for 8 years with only a very rare visit--203 times a year--from the bio mom. She doesn't even remember the kids' birthday. Yjanks for the read.

It's good to see you are posting again, Ingrid. Laura sounds like an angel in disguise. There are certain people in this world who seem to have what they need to be a blessing to others. She will be missed and remembered fondly by all who knew her. The story was very interesting and a nice tribute to your friend. Nancy

Thanks. Yes, she was special. I now get the kids every day...very interesting. Only had one and these two are always squabbling.

reply by nancy_e_davis on 12-Aug-2018
That's natural. Two of mine live with me . They are in their early sixties and they squabble all the time. LOL Go figure. Hugs.
