You could be in for a long fruitless search I'm thinking. Kind and meek go well enough together but the guy you are looking for has to be proud to and in most folk that is seen as the opposite of modest and meek. And one with a gentle plan is likely to get firmly sat on by those with the greedy plans. You set a hard task here but then, you knew that.

A pleasant rhythm of mised iambic and trochaic metre in alternately rhyming quatrains.

Hello Jaybird, like you I am still looking! LOL. This is a good poem with both fine rhyme an rhythm. Very well worded and I particularly like -

Standing firm on shaky ground,
proud, yet modest, kind and meek. ... not many like this around. Well written - warm regards Dorothy

I am not sure there is one. I think the nearest I have come across is my BROTHER-IN-LAW. I enjoyed this poem and liked the message behind it. i LIKED THE FACT THERE WAS NO PICTURE. Thank you for sharing.

This is very well written, Jay. I think there was one that lived once, but now he's gone. Maybe we'll see him again. Your lines flow well from one to the other and rhyming is great. Marilyn

Hello Jaybird,
There are few that are visible, perhaps that is why they are hard to find
but I suspect, away from the glare of light
there are many who might fit your description.
Most would likely walk right by them without even noticing.
You've written an excellent rhymed poem
that causes the reader to ponder
and that's a key of fine poetry
Well done
Robert

-I like your poem very much, jaybird1.
-You present the idea of the
humble man very well with
good rhyme and description.
-I also like your question at the end:
"someone with a gentle plan.
Proud, yet modest, kind and meek,
can you find a humble man?"
-Thanks for sharing.

A thought provoking and poignant poem... that speaks of man's eternal quest to find purpose and meaning in our world... to find a place and people where 'peace and good will toward man' actually resides and is not just another little clever saying that rings hollow and empty... because on first glance, it appears that there is an empty vacant lot and eternal vacancy for this position of silent, quiet, humble power --- not to be used and abused, but to be savored in reverence and respect... Looking around today, in a world built on greed and power lust plays, it is hard to find those who have not been 'swept up' in its evil urge to dominate and control... to obliterate those weaker and poor... It is my God, that is the only prescient being that has that power... I don't always feel it, and I am not always open to feel it, but when I do, it helps to lift my heart and soul, and restore faith in my shattered and tattered soul... it also lends appreciation for my circumstances, when I am reminded of how much more trouble and pain others have -- and try to encourage an 'attitude of gratitude' towards whatever impacts me or hurts me... best wishes on your journey... you are not alone...

an excellent poem in the simplicity of it's message delivered in simple quatrains. I look forward to a follow-up piece of when you find him and what you learn from him. well done, Jaybird...............meeshu

This is great, I love your rhyming skills. Yes I believe they are out there...humble men I mean, but you are right, they are very hard to find. Thanks for sharing this thought provoking poem.

A lovely little philosophical verse, Jaybird.

It's understated and polite throughout. Very matter-of-fact, which isn't a bad thing. It has an innate innocence and sweetness to it. Almost lilting.

Your 70 years a poet dwarfs my 45. Congratulations. Sweet to know that you are still looking.... unless by that you mean you doubt "he" exists?

Very enjoyable.
