Hope. That is a strong emotion, one that we mustn't lose sight of. That man in the picture, no arm, I'm not sure about his eyes, but he is smiling. He has hope. Faith also comes into it. Between the two, we should win. But, then we watch as we give up, and sink into a nothingness. Best keep that hope up and thriving. :) Sandra xx

Thank you. The eyes are blotted out to protect the guy's identity. This was a stock photo that I found on Google. That is the only reason I could use it, because the guy was made anonymous. His wedding ring is covered too. Thanks again.

Hi There, I like the poem because it's well written and certainly also say a lot of profound things. Overall though, I find it very sad and depressing, something that is so far from my own perception of life. All the best. Ulla:))

I guess it was meant to be depressing. You have read a handful of my stuff. I think all of it is sad and depressing, but at least, hopefully, infused with a good natured pessimism. Thank you for your comments.

Hello Lance, this is a very thoughtful poem, very much a faith poem. It is well written with strong signs of disillusionment. 'And then you lose interest and sink back into the petty and frightened human being all of us have been all along--'. A very interesting read - well written and a good display. Good Luck in the contest. Warm regards Dorothy

This sounds like a person suffering from depression letting the outside world control his emotions and view of himself. It also has intimations of PSTD. But it mainly states how hard it is to have hope in this mixed up world in which we live. The person in the picture has the least reason to hope.

Thank you for that. Without going into a deep and self-serving personal history (even I don't really care about that any longer), I will admit that you have gleaned some personal truth out of this piece. I usually scribble the poems I write out in a few minutes. This one was a lot more carefully written. Thanks again.

This work really brought up a lot of mixed feelings for me, which is what all good work should do. The picture and words made a good combination for me. A poem to remember.

Thank you. Sometimes my brand of pessimism comes out real pretty too. Thanks again.

A very intense and powerful poem. Strong phrasing and statements. Hope rallies and falls, does it spring eternal-we shall see. Best of luck in the contest.

Fuck-Screw. Many will be disappointed when the end comes. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very inspiring read. There is very good imagery.

I admire your passion that shines through so starkly in this write and I love that you were so raw and honest, and expressed your frustration, especially in a love poem because it's such a unique take on a love poem, talking about all your beliefs and passions through the years. You keep standing up for what you believe in! We all need a good rant sometimes and I don't think anyone should judge another for their beliefs or likes because we are all different as human beings and that's what makes the world interesting and diverse. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for these generous comments. I like to explore different beliefs and try to understand why people believe as they do. Those willing to talk past 'because that's just the way it is!' tend to be the most interesting and insightful people, no matter which side they finally take. Thanks again.

Thank you. I actually took this one pretty seriously. It took longer than some of these formless rants.

Curious about how people responded to this write, your truth, as I always am, I checked out the other reviews. A love poem to free will, you say. That makes sense after the fact, but I think it would be difficult to imagine that was your intent from this poem seemingly about hope and humanity. Some people believe so hard they would blow up the world to be proven right. Their belief and hope in God is indeed dangerous then. May we all have hope in a capacity which fails to harm others, hope without destruction of life, empathy, and love.

Thank you for your comments and your kind thoughts for the world. I really did, however, look at this as a love poem. It is perhaps none traditional, but that is only in its focus, and not the passion. Thank you again.
