Finally, something worth reading. Finally, someone with a natural talent for writing. It matters little if I agree or disagree with your theory. It's enough that your post was well written, easy to understand, and thought provoking. Praise Jesus. (Or whomever) (I ususally give credit to Jesus, just in case.) (I'd thank Allah, but I want to avoid being run out of America on a rail.) (Or spend the rest of my life vacationing in Cuba.) Hey, great post. Loved it.

Thank you. You are way too generous. I invented this conspiracy theory because we live in a time where everything is given consideration or believed in some corner of the world. I guess that was my purpose with this. I have gotten responses from people claiming that they have heard this argued, that they think I'm a paranoid kook while ranting a different conspiracy theory and have really enjoyed the responses. Thanks again.

This is even the new religion, worshiping another fairy tale, only secular this time, so as not to offend anyone. ~ I find this observation profound.

Your articles is, once again, just the sort of thing that stimulates self-debate in me. We are living in crazy days and whoever came up with Trump found a new Eldorado for a lot of people. Of course he wouldn't have made this far without those bent on deconstructing democracy i.e. the Mercer clan who brought in Cambridge Analytica.

Brillaint! No sixers but you don't even need one - your words are garlanded with enough exceptional-ness.

Jesus. Thanks. I feel like I should blush, but I lack general humility. Thanks again.

A very thought-provoking political essay. I find it hard to separate the fly-shit from the pepper, the truth from BS. Thank you for putting out the effort to write this enlightening piece.

On point, I did actually make this up, including the article with the ellipsis. I made it up to prove a point. I spread this all around social media. Some legitimate news organizations picked it up and actually discussed it on air (or maybe just came to a similar conclusion all by themselves?) All it proves is that we are such a mistrustful society that it is easy to make any suggestion and get people to believe it.

It is sad that we can't believe men in the White House they are letting sex offenders in and also run the nation. Men just can't keep it in their pants and think they don't have to be held accountable for their actions.

We can't really believe anyone from all political persuasions because lies and exaggerations have become the most effective political tools. Thank you for your comments.

Interesting and thought provoking, "We have no idea, any longer, what is true. And belief--belief!--this is the precursor of reality." and that is, at least for me, the problem.

" Welcome to the Age of Trump." He's just a symptom. This goes back farther and deeper than him. To give the unpopular guy a chance, his story isn't over yet. I remain optimistic.

As far as 'welcome to the age of Trump,"--he is not a symptom--we are--and he is the virus we have unleashed upon the world. And yes, this virus has been percolating really since the end of the US Civil War. It is great that you remain optimistic. I do not. I don't think that Trump cares about anything whatsoever, which is more dangerous than if he had an actual agenda he was trying to accomplish.

I've heard that theory expressed by a legitimate news broadcaster. The scariest thing is I actually considered it might be true. That's the biggest victim of this atmosphere of 'could happen." The truth has become so hard to distinguish because nothing seems to be beyond some of the governments now in power. If it's crooked and unethical, you can bet some corrupt official has already thought of it and suggested it if it can advance their agenda. I have lost all faith in the honesty of most western governments. Totally disenchanted with the government of men. Made me think I'm not the only one thinking this way. Good write, Lance.

Just to give you a little inside here: I made this whole thing up, the quote with ellipsis and everything. No one was talking about this theory (at least that I was aware of) before I planted it on numerous social media sites and sent it to several media outlets. I saw people discussing it on the news two days ago. I want the goddamn credit. And you're right, my experiment proves just how easy it is to start scandalous rumors.

pales as a threat when compared - 'pale' as a threat

Now we live in a world where anything is possible, or at least(,) so we believe.

And I am hardly a conspiracy theorist. It just sounds . . . I don't know, in this age of political blood-sport(,) it just seems like the sort of thing that probably does happen.

since the Clinton Administration (really since Woodrow Wilson)(.)

You have a way with words. You are passionate with your pleas and write with pure conviction. I found just a few tiny nits, addressed above, and the rest, well...good job on conveying your POV in a clear, concise manner. Thanks for sharing another well penned piece, Lance. Keep writing.

Thank you for your editorial comments. I made a number of mistakes in the message I sent to the Senator and so I did not edit this, but presented it as it was written. Thanks for the comments.

Definitely thought-provoking stuff Lance.

Politicians by and large start out with high aspirations and respectable morals, I believe, however they are surrounded by temptation and entrapment at a time when they are at their least experienced in the business of staying out of (political) trouble. Some will fail. The problem is telling which ones.

This is a quote from John Adams:

"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy. It is not true, in fact, and nowhere appears in history. Those passions are the same in all men, under all forms of simple government, and when unchecked, produce the same effects of fraud, violence, and cruelty. When clear prospects are opened before vanity, pride, avarice, or ambition, for their easy gratification, it is hard for the most considerate philosophers and the most conscientious moralists to resist the temptation."

This cancer has always been with us . . .

You know I had to weigh in. On the one hand, Trump is supposed to be a maniac or an imbecile. How could he concoct such a scheme? I'd say the sources close to the White House are making stuff up. Why did they need to go that extra mile, when its seemed like everyone was believing Christine Blasey Ford's story and had Kavanaugh convicted anyway. The Democrats were sitting pretty, so there was really no need for any help from the White House. You didn't mention the site where you found the article or the name of the author. If he or she is that trustworthy, why not name names? As usual, you do a great job with your writing. You present your case very forcefully. I'm not a fan of Trump, but I don't hold him responsible for all the woes in the world. Nor do I think Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court will bring disaster. judi

Hello and thank you. I made the whole thing up as a little experiment. I wrote the quote myself too, ellipsis and all. No one, at least that I saw, was talking about this. Until I posted it on a variety of places. I guess I just wanted to prove that you can make something up find out that it really is true. Or at least that someone believes in it. Thanks again.

Well I haven't heard anything about this so I can't comment, except that I wouldn't put anything past a politician these days - especially anyone on Donnie's team. I have to confess, I peeked a look at your reviews. You're a bit of a rabble rouser aren't you? That's good - the rabbles need rousing. Trump's followers need to learn not to swallow everything he says like it's gospel truth.

I guess I am a bit of a troublemaker. I actually made that whole conspiracy theory up. I wrote the article. I intentionally placed some murky ellipsis between the quotes. Yes, I made it up. It still doesn't make it any less possible, however, does it? People who dispute this as nonsense defend it with equally paranoid silliness of their own. Thank you for your comments.
