Hi Lance. Your essay confirms that there has been and always will be dissension in politics. One's saint is another's sinner and how do we know who's right or wrong. Everything is interpreted through an eye skewed by one's philosophical beliefs. Still politics/leaders are a necessary evil and we all make the best decisions at the time with the information available. Marilyn

I have been working on a book with the history of editorial opinions on every president in our nation. I am working on Harry Truman now, have written the first 32, and await the editing and rewrites. I have found this to be a fascinating history lesson for myself and, hopefully, for the reader. Thank you for your kind words.

This is an amazing essay of how the time was perceive of Roosevelt and in particularly Pearl Harbour. It was very interesting and I hope you will let us know when you publish. I'd like to read in more detail. All the best. Ulla:))

Thank you. The whole project is an analysis of different things that people have believed about the President since the founding of the United States (and before, in some instances). The facts of my piece of history here is that people actually believed these things. There is, of course, more traditional historical insight offered, as some cannot be escaped to set the picture for why individuals came up with these theories. Some of the beliefs are probably even true. But my focus is the growing paranoia of Americans as the media age truly took over our national dialogue.

This historical perspective on FDR is quite dense for this platform. The hint of paranoia threads through this compil@tion of dubious historical references, mixing some facts with a lot of heresay and som3 improbable alternative facts. I'll have to find more time to peruse this further.

Everyone is still playing the blame game about Pearl Harbor the blame lies in the teletype they received that never got to the president telling of the coming of the planes. It was discarded as not important at the time and the whole world paid dearly for the act.

You're absolutely right. I am just chronicling conspiracy theories of the 20th century in my larger project. It is an Editorial History, which is essentially the history of different things people have believed about government, freedom, democracy, general politics, money, social problems and on and on and on. Thank you for your comments.

When I attended Akron U, I had a professor who said that Rosevelt should not have called himself a Democrat, he should have called himself what he was, a communist. He pointed to the WPA and social security to prove his point.

Those two specifics were, of course, socialist ideas, so in a vague sense that professor is correct. However, he seems (at least from this nugget you are offering) to be disregarding all the other pulls of the times and the trends of the days and the requirements of the era. Thank you again for your comments.

You have me interested in history again and wanting to go back and read many of your references.
You say this chapter is long. I think not.
You book should prove to be interesting. I hope you let us know when you publish.
I read everything with an 'is it true or not' attitude--through my already formulated agenda. You may have broken through more than many ever have.

Thank you for a marvelous offering.

Hey, I get paid if you buy any of those books from abebooks.com. One of my sponsors on the blog recordingeditorialhistory.wordpress.com The best biography of FDR, in my opinion, is focused solely on the build up and the war years called No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Thank you again.

Once more I learnt a lot about the United States of America from your post which I'd never willingly aspired to do. It is interesting to compare the acts and inaction of all those former great names in the American presidency.

Gives me pause to ponder what the Trump generation will be like a few decades from now.

Thank you again. I have gotten more confident in writing these as I get closer to the era I've lived through (I was born just before Nixon's second term). With that confidence and more actual first hand knowledge of the swirling ideas and ideologies, it has given me at least the illusion of a certain knowledge based upon history and its recorded impacts on the future. Trump will be seen as a disruptive force that attempted--and ultimately failed--to realign the meaning of the United States of America. He will be crassly condemned, although not so much for the direct issues people criticize him for today, but for the future economic problems he will wind up causing (likely to the detriment of whomever follows him into office). Those problems, now not considered due to the present spike, have more to do with interest payments and debt. Trump knows how to wrack up debt and, in his personal businesses, he knows how to get away with not paying through a variety of bankruptcies and shell company transfers alongside misleading tax receipts. Many business people do this. But we will discover (even those who radically support the man) that a nation cannot be run like a business and a CEO of a corporation has a lot more power, ultimately, to change things, than the president of the United States.

Yes, I agree with you. The headache is that he's already managed to raise a hundred million dollars for his next campaign. I don't know if the USA, not to mention the world at large, will survive a Trump second term. I never expected him to win elections, then after he won, I never thought he'll last six months in the white house...

The History of American Presidents and the action of the wealthy cannot be made public in its true form. This is very well written and presents more questions than answers. You present an enlightened view of Amerca's political history, failed in solutions. In truth, the American voters don't want to think for himself.

Thank you. This is part of a much larger work discussing the various opinions the public has had about leadership, economics, politics, social issues, and other struggles of the moment since before the United States' founding. It is a history book in the sense that it discusses both historical and revisionist views of events from the past.

I can see that this is the result of extensive research and for that you deserve six stars. It gives an interesting aspect of FDR someone who was legendary in stature
it is interesting how the conspiracy theory started .US wanted to enter the war thro side door and it definitely didnt want to bomb Germany . Racial considerations ,no doubt.
We have heard of conspiracy theories about 9/11 too. That the then Powers that be knew about it.

Thank you. I am working crazy hard on this project and the research has been very intense. I hardly sleep between writing and posting and reading and otherwise studying a variety of sources. And since my approach is how and, more importantly, why conspiracy theories develop, there is a lot of really crazy things I am reading alongside some more straight-forward and traditional history. Thank you again for your generous compliments.

I enjoy your essays, you seem to have done a lot of intensive research. I have watched a lot of documentaries on these subjects and never get tired of history.

Thank you. I try to probe the less discussed elements of each of the presidents (with FDR the rise of conspiracy culture, for example). There is no reason for me to discuss world war 2 in this piece because you can get much more detail and much better insight into those realities. I am interested in what people believed, because, sadly, belief is a precursor to reality. Thanks again.
