A very well-written piece of advice. There are some things we have to scale down but not completely cut out, as you say it is a matter of balance, a little of everything to spice it up a bit.

This was very well done and super educational. I learned a lot from reading through this and I will openly admit that I read it three times just to learn more. You provided wisdom that few are brave enough to address and you added that gentle hint of humor which I think enticed me to read and reread. Thanks so much for sharing-hugs to your wee one.

When I had my first child, my mother gave me the best advice that I have used in my life not only for parenting. She told me that everybody was going to have something to say, including her. People would try to tell me what was the right way and what was the wrong way. She said I should listen to all of them, then I needed to sort through them, use what I wanted and figure out what was best for me.
I am new to serious writing and am always looking for suggestions, I need also to remember that this is my story to tell. Thank you for reminding me of all of that.

We're all full of suggestions but that's what they should be 'suggestions'. You know what you want to say, sometimes someone can help you phrase it better, often not! lol

There is a lot of useful advice here. I think my biggest take away here is a story needs balance. I tend to overcorrect a previous mistake, going from one extreme to the other. Dialogue vs description, show vs tell. One day I'll get it right. Great writing as always, take care.

Yeah, it's very easy to mess a piece up. Especially when a lot of folk have their say! lol

Thank you so much for this! I am blind and I read more than fully sighted people. It's amazimg what the brain stores and what I retrieve at times. One thing I really appreciate about FanStory is the challenge to read something I wouldn't normally choose. I have ventured into poetry and...I love it! You stay with your love of reading. I have passed that along to my sons and grandkids. All are avid readers, or just learning. Your little one will grow in love with books reading with you!
All my best to you and yours,
Sally

I must admit, I don't know what to say, I wonder how many have benefitted by "how to" books, I know my mum was very good with writing, language, spelling and reading, and crafts, my sister is gifted artistically, my father and three male siblings are all brilliant with their hands, (one was) and then...there's me?!? Authors of "how to"books skirt these things G? I would never read for the sake of it. Well done, blessings, Roy
Typo (It'll) written in English. It's?

Some folk just have gifts. My brother is exceptionally talented at music, sport, and art but because it's easy he doesn't push himself...lol Cheers G

I have one of each, as daughters, the one who "tries" has two degrees. But they are still precious, they are good, kind human beings, that's what counts.

Reading is what does it. I also don't take all of this that seriously. I got published straight off the bat which I found hilarious. I also write quick but I devour books as well as stories on here. I love it. lol

This is good advice.

One nit: It'll [be] written in English

I'm so happy. I caught the great one in an error. I must be a genius.

Tell don't show. This advice was often given to me by Rava Divi. I told her in scripts it was acceptable. She called me names and arrogant. She said I accepted advice form Giraffemang, but not her. I said you're no Giraffemang. She muted me. Mission accomplished.
