Great poem. I love the repeating "s" sounds in each line. I like the word "spectral" here. It relates to spectra, but it also means ghostly or haunting. Definitely a new take on a rainbow.

    Hi Cole,

Thank you very much for your kind review and generous rating. I'm glad you liked this piece. I agree - spectral does seem to fit nicely - rainbows are that way. Jan

Even though I think these little poems are torture to write, you've done a very good job.
I like the alliteration and the last line is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.

    Hi Maria,

Nice to see you again, my friend. I apologize for the delayed response - I've been ill and have been playing catch up here on the site and in real life. I'm happy to know you enjoyed the read and appreciate your great review and rating. Jan

Yes, the sky, the earth, the seas, maybe lakes offer so much to us that allow ourselves to pull in this beauty into our inner most selves. Not everyone can do that, and they miss so much. I see your poem as "words of wisdom". Best wishes.

I believe we have the same philosophy about the earth being such a grand place. Perhaps we should be more considerate of it.

This is an excellent contest entry and will do well in the voting booth. Contests are difficult to win on FanStory. I seldom win, but it's fun to try. I hope you win.

Thanks so much, Thomas. I really appreciate your kind review and generous rating. Yes, they are hard to win. This poem came in 2nd, which is an honor for sure. But it's rather disappointing that so few people actually vote. :-/ Thanks again, Jan

Yes indeed. A picture is worth a thousand words. "Spectral smile at play." I contemplated following this prompt but the words just wouldn't come. You and this photo "hit the nail right on the head."

This was a great entry for the contest and I thought you were going to win it, but second is as close as you can get without winning, so congratulations on a great job...Bill

    Hi Cedar,

Thank you so much for the great review and generous rating. It was looking good for the win up until near the end. LOL But I'm happy with 2nd for sure! My REM after midnight entry only got I think 3 votes, so this is a much better finish. Somehow I don't think the intellectual approach will be successful in contests here. LOL

    Thanks again, my friend!

    Jan

You're absolutely right. From my experience with contests, "most" of the winning entries are from subjects that tug at the voter's hearts or makes them laugh. Take care. Bill

It certainly looks like God may be smiling at someone here on earth. I have often been told that I should live my life in such a way that God will smile in approval. So maybe someone on the earth has done just that and won God's approval and His divine smile.

Nice play on words and great photo! So few words yet perfectly paired. This is a happy warm poem that elicits a feel good feeling when reading. Rainbows and smiles go together and you have done an excellent job of articulating and pairing.
J
