And THIS is why I love satire. You've managed to use dark humour to make a significant point. Not achievable with just ANY genre of poetry or writing.

Other than poems about offing your other half I take great delight in reading your views and frustrations with the world and everything in it. You wrangle words with ease and always provide an entertaining and engaging read, no matter the subject.

Loved the rhyming as always you are intimidating.
I don't even feel worthy enough to review you most times haha

Well done Mark. Point made clearly and cleverly.
BTW this actually deserves two sixers LOL

Thanks for the back-to-back sixes - you're too kind. And you're right that there was a serious point I was trying to make with this one. Thanks for always getting it.

Spot on, dear one. My brain struggles to comprehend the logic behind the notion that God will grant me supremacy over another. But then, I realize that logic is not applied to the thought process.

Exactly - there's no way that Clemson beats Notre Dame, if God is pulling the strings.
    Thanks for the review.

I will call you my resident satirist, and that is what you do best. I enjoyed this because as in everything in life, we need to see the humor. God has a wonderful sense of humor and the Bible says he laughs. I am reminded of a scripture as I read this of God's opinion of hatred. He says, " But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes." The only thing we are supposed to hate is evil and the works of the evil one. Pity the one who thinks hating others is loving God, but not just them, but the ones who reduce God to their definition of Him. He defies all definition and there is none like Him.
All my best,
Sal :+) Enjoy you sixer!

This is so in line with my fundamental view on religion - that man has made god in his image, even if I do not share his taste in night attire. The older I get the more like me he seems to be, his beard has always been grey mine as now become grey and so forth. I knew I was right and this poem backs up my belief superbly.

Thanks, Jim. Odd how God always seems to have a beard - wonder why that is.

In His younger days whenever He put the razor down it kept falling through the clouds. Eventually He gave up the unequal struggle and created Isaac Newton instead to explain his actions.

Chuckle, chuckle, this reminds me of my husband's joke: I'm always right, even when I'm wrong.
What a tragic reality for so many. If only we spent more energy trying to know the 'others' instead of fearing them. Ignorance is the father of so many wrongs.
Your ideas flow in a logical and straight forward 'discussion' manner here. The rhyme is comfortable to follow. Nice work!

A very well-written poem about the things we think God will be with us that stands completely against His character. He loves all souls even those who don't love Him or do not know Him.

Amazingly good look at the way a small, close-minded person uses religion justify a cruel view of the world. Do you follow Andy Borowitz' Report in The New Yorker online? Another great satirist! I'd really like to see one of you write a Candide for our times.

Thanks - I hadn't known about Andy Borowitz until I read your review and looked him up - he's hilarious - reminds me of The Onion.

I was very lucky, Mark.
I had good spiritual teachers in my Southern Baptist Church growing up.
Our Pastor, Dr. Jerry Lowell, taught us that God hates no one.
Not Muslim extremists, murders, liars, thieves...the list goes on and on.
Therefor, I grew up thinking the same way. I have never disliked anyone based solely on their religious preferences, race, color, political views, etcetera, unless they've given me a very good reason to.
Even when I feel I've been wronged I am quick to forgive.
Life is far too short to go around harboring hatred in our hearts. Because, in the end, the only ones we wind up hurting is ourselves.
Great poem, well penned.
~Dean

Another Anne Lamott quotee (she's the author I quoted in the author's notes) - "Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and then waiting for the rat to die"

    Thanks for the review
