I love this story!! You have done an excellent job in crafting this short story and pulling out all of the stops to present us not only with a fine read, but urging each of us to remember a special moment with our own mothers. Thank you.

a wonderful story and told so superbly by a fine storyteller. keeping the reader in the room with you and at the graveside is what really made the story. excellent, Lord.........................meeshu

You've written a real tear-jerker with this one. Increasing poignancy as it moves through the generations. How sharply a funeral can bring memories flooding back! Your description of the much loved bunny and bear sent my mind racing back to The Velveteen Rabbit. Six of the best, if I had them.

Your story is so well written... I am sure many readers will relate. You cover the passage of time to take us through many emotions from pre-toddler to adult and the loving security and connection a mother can provide. And the huge loss as we bury them. I had a favourite toy, the equivalent of Big Ted; I still vividly remember my utter devastation when he was stolen... not even a scrap left to mend and keep. I was 30 years old when that happened. it was a burglary and maybe he was a highly collectable bear worth a lot of money... that was an unimportant fact to me, I just wanted my childhood friend back.

Oh Thank you so much Lisa May for your most wonderful review and of course the six stars. I am so honoured and grateful. I am immensely sad to hear that your favourite toy "Big Ted" was stolen from you. You said it meant a lot to you plus you managed to hang onto him throughout your early adult life. I am sure it was a very bitter blow losing him to a thief. :( I certainly can understand how my little story resonates with you.

I am so touched that you shared such personal memories with me. Thank you.

Well, THIS certainly took me to every possible emotion I have: Delight at the description of Biggles, Foreboding because "Ing" and "fateful" were in the same sentence, Humor as I read "she ripped out his good eye," (but, to my credit, I replaced it quickly with anger and indignation! Such a nasty child, that Ing!), Warmth as our heroin was rescued by her mother who saw and understood exactly what went down in that unsupervised room, Sorrow when I realized what evoked the memory, Tears galore when I read why Biggles and Big Ted were in attendance. Lordinajamjar, you have outdone yourself with this one!! Absolute. Perfection. xo

This was a beautiful story, Lordinajamjar. And I'm secure enough in myself to admit I had a couple of tears in my eyes when I finished it. A mother's love is irreplaceable. Well done.

You had me angered at a child and the mother and feeling sorry for the little girl who couldn't get up and walk fast enough. You made me very sad at the end because that grave was somebody they loved. Great job running me through the emotions. Have a great night. Shirley

Shirley how can I respond that am pleased by your comments. What kind of man would be I be if I replied I was happy to hear about your anger and your pity and your sadness caused by my writing. Well I am that kind of writer. Lol. Thank you for your wonderful review. I can't wait to bring you to tears again. ;)

You did a great job with this poignant story. I enjoyed reading it and felt so bad for the little girl, the bunny, and the bear. What a hateful, spiteful child Ing was--probably learned from her mother. I am thrilled the bunny and bear were repaired to be passed down to another generation. Thanks for sharing. Jan
