I love the imagery of the steeds slowing their pace to pick up a very special passenger and then keeping the slower pace as the travel onward. Brooke would appreciate the addition of the fields of dandelions.

I was sad to hear of her passing.she will be missed.

Hello w.j.debi. It's wonderful to hear from you again. Thank you for the marvelous comments. I tried to emulate Brooke's style in this poem, for it is one I am fond of myself. She had a great influence and was a wonderful encouragement for me, even though I was only on the site for about four months before she became ill. We talked of the Valley Forge Music Fair, where we both went to hear great popular music, from Peter, Paul and Mary to Harry Chapin. She was, indeed, a dew pearl.

I met Adewpearl soon after I joined FanStory in 2008 and found her to be a very talented and caring person. I always hoped she would return to the site, but at least she lives on in our Hall of Fame. I admired your rhymed quatrains and "carriage" metaphor as much as Brooke would have. Your reference to her favorite, the "dandelion" was perfect. You may have known her for only a short time, but you knew her well! She is with the angels. Warm regards- Joan

Robert--
I appreciate this, I guess. I am having trouble here. I did not know Brooke who is a sort of fabled figure here. I cannot separate my score from my lack of knowledge and your admiration for her. So that makes things difficult. It seems to me if you are admiring Brooke then Wordsworth is not the poet you need?

Best

    Hello Jeff,
Thank you for the interesting comments. It is difficult to review when one's not familiar with the person. Brooke was not only an excellent poet, but a excellent teacher who inspired and helped many on fanstory. As to Wordsworth, while he's not at the top of my, or many others, admired poets list, the particular quote I used seemed quite apt for Brooke. It's all about imagery.
    I always appreciate your comments.

This is a great tribute, Robert. I enjoyed reading it. Your words flow smoothly with good t=rhymes and a great storyline. I love the lines about Heaven and Orion. Your words are heart-felt and sincere. I like the quote at the end, too. The picture is perfect. Thanks for sharing. Jan

Ah, such a beautiful tribute to Brooke. I can see the horses and carriage coming down the lane for a fine poet who has left us.

A wonderful tribute to a dear lady and friend. :)

After reading your poem I have started to empathize with your feelings and so I can say that your poetry has achieved its purpose.

You have ended the poem very well
'Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven,...'

Robert, it's so sad. She was such a talented writer and she was cut down at a far too early age. You have composed such a lovely poem for her and thank you for sharing it with us. All best. Ulla:))

This is a beautiful tribute for a fine lady and I'm sure her family will enjoy reading it very much. I certainly did.

Your first stanza really grabs the reader, just knowing that carriage will be coming for us all when it's time.

Thank you for sharing this outstanding piece of poetry with us. If you are a believer, Brooke will enjoy reading it also. Take care, my friend...Bill

A beautiful, touching tribute to a beautiful lady, "someone special--gifted and open, a light--subtle and bright".
Your poem evokes a cascade of emotions (and tears). So long such souls spread their light on our world, share so much, so wonderful, but so sad when they have ascended to the light whence they came from. Comforting to know though, that their light still shines on us from Heaven.
Congratulations with Recognized and All time Best!

Thank you Robert. I wanted to read some of Brooke's poetry, but could not find her in the member's list, understandably of course.
I am well, thank you and spring has arrived here, flowers, blossoming trees everywhere, birds singing and collecting for their nests and weather mild and calm again. Have a good weekend, love Susan

"Once A Generation", is an exceptionally well-written and deftly descriptive tribute to our now gone and much loved poet friend Brooke. Tears fill my eyes as I think
of the fourteen years worth of reviews you did for me. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
