Hello Kiwi.. Thank you for the marvelous comments. I tried to emulate Brooke's style in this poem, for it is one I am fond of myself. She had a great influence and was a wonderful encouragement for me and others. She was, indeed, a dew pearl.

A beautiful tribute to Brooke! I wish I'd known her but she left a year before I started. So eloquently said and it gives me the feeling that there was something extraordinary about her!

Hi- I'm so sorry for your loss. I've read the nicest things about Brooke in the last few hours. She really must have been a remarkable woman. It seems she has really touched a lot of hearts.

Well rhymed quatrains present a lovely tribute message with colorful imagery.
The employment of repetition is very effective. Ref. The title.
Well written.

What a beautiful tribute, simply masterful imagery, and of course, meter and rhyme are spot-on. I'm sorry, Robert; this is so difficult when the poetry is so moving. I've known Brooke since I first joined FanStory, and I'm near tears again. *sigh*

But one thing -- the subject of your past tense verb is not "steeds", as you say in your notes; it's "carriage" - singular noun. "Pulled" is correct, my friend, not "pull".

Thank you for this gorgeous poem. I'm sure the family will love it.

Hello Dawn. Thank you for the marvelous comments. I tried to emulate Brooke's style in this poem, for it is one I am fond of myself. She had a great influence and was a wonderful encouragement for me, even though I was only on the site for about four months before she became ill. We talked of the Valley Forge Music Fair, where we both went to hear great popular music, from Peter, Paul and Mary to Harry Chapin. She was, indeed, a dew pearl.

    As to the stanza:

Most times the steeds are restless,
    the carriage pull in haste,
    but once a generation,
    they slow their hectic pace.

Steeds is the subjects, pull is the verb, carriage the direct object. Perhaps the poetic syntax is confusing. Put into prose,
Sometimes the steeds are restless, pull the carriage in haste.

The note was for some who thought the carriage was the subject and required "pulls." But the carriage does not pull.

The steeds pull, the carriage receives the action.

Your suggestion is a bit different, past or present tense. It could be either way. I prefer stanza is in present tense with pull and slow.

Poetry and punctuation: ah, there's the rub.
Thank you for the great review.

    Robert

They moved Brooke to another Hospital years ago, and we sent cards there, but alas a sad time, and this worthy a poem for our dear Mother of poetry and friend. Great imagery projected.
A nice gesture. On return looking for motivation I found this news. I wrote for her in 2105 and gain 217 now for the final time I will say goodbye in my not-planned post.
Bravo to honoring our dear lady.
My best wishes.
RG

A beautiful tribute indeed. It flows so well and has such heart. I like the words you have chosen to use for your rhymes. I find nothing in this writing that would need changing.

A beautiful tribute to a lovely person and a very gifted poet. I love the imagery and symbolism.

I didn't know Brooke long, either, but she was quick to write a supportive review, and just loved her poems.

Great job,
Rhonda
