Your letter to Jane Hall is an example of how writing can serve the public good and the good of the planet. And yes, we should all do our part. With your photo and your clear description of the situation, you make a very strong case. It is respectful and should not put anybody off, even showing your concern for the Council's possible liability. I hope you got results and made them be more conscientious.

    Hi Joanna,

    Thanks for your review.

There has been no reply as yet from Jane Hall, but she will have to put the issue to a Council Meeting before she gives me feedback. That may take 2 or more months. Local elections are in May.

Generally, government officers love to uphold the status quo, and take a dim view of anyone suggesting a change.

    But I wait in hope.

    Thanks,

    Richard.

Hi Richard, here you go again, even if your script is short, the meaning of what and how, your intentions could be read loudly for what you are crying help. I am so happy for you, even not many have not read your writing here, it still is a wonderful way to practice for your own future. Very well done. Terry xoxo
My six star is for sharing your talent.

Hi Richard,

BRAVO! Standing ovation here for you addressing this horrid practice. I'm sure you don't live in the United States of Extortion, or else you wouldn't even mention legal liability if someone were to take ill from the horrid toxicity of the exhaust fumes. Your letter is excellent and very well written, of course. Again, I applaud your efforts to speak up on behalf of our planet! Thank you for sharing. Jan

    Hi Jan,

Have always been ecologically aware, and joined a green group in the seventies.

But now there's a groundswell to get stuff done. Like beachcombers litter picking for plastics.

With a bit of effort from us all, I believe the natural environment can be improved.

    What do I do?

    I write!

    Thanks,

    Richard.

Very well said, I must admit seeing that picture of Lichfield taken by someone else did bring back memories for me! But I loved your letter and I hope they take notice, they will need to use alternative methods as you say, why should the town centre be polluted in such a way. I will be interested in their action here Richard, let me know what happens, love Dolly x

    Hi Dolly,

    Thanks for your review.

    Will keep you posted.

In fact it occurs to me I could start a string of emails to the council to ask their policy on Solar pv, plastics, reducing car use, electric council cars, electric bikes (company bikes) for council staff, and hedgehog protection zones. Yes, this could run.

The worst diesel was in a Manchester bus station or terminus near where the IRA Bomb went off in 1995.

    It is no more.

Another bad place was Birmingham station, underground, where diesel trains waited, engines idling, but pumping out huge amounts of fumes.

I suppose I should make a visit to see if it has improved.

Anyway, soon we should be all electric. Cars, buses, trains, planes.
    Planes?

In fact I may rename myself, Electric Rik.

    Ha ha ha!!!

    Thanks,

    Richard.
