Love this poem. So clever and artfully done. Your Honorable Mention win really well-deserved, if not a higher honor. This is my first exposure to your verse and would very much enjoy taking a class with you. Congratulations on your win, Pantygynt!

Thank you so much for reviewing this. What a pity you did not sign up for the class just started. Never mind there will be another one coming up at the end of June I think.

Is there a way to receive a notification about it? I am new to this site.

    Best,

There used to be a tab for it in the 'Community' menu but I see that has disappeared. I have contactected Tom (the director of the site) to ask for it to be reinstated. Also I always advertise each class in advance within a posted poem of my own. If you were to become a fan of mine you would be alerted to anything I posted. Meanwhile, I will try to remember to contact you when the class is open.

Thank you. I just became a fan of yours, as you advised. So hopefully, I may "see" you in class soon.

    Best,

    Lily

Good luck in the contest Jim. You did a great job in presenting this with a fantastic rhyming pattern. I enjoyed the aspects you covered regarding the different sects of the cloth. You were rather creative and wrote an enjoyable piece.

This started as a bit of fun and well that is how it ended but in between I spent a day fooling around with it. I am pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for reviewing.

Pantygynt - I enjoyed this poem. There are definitely some great lines in here. The pairing of "Benedictine black/Evil One's attack" and "to go gardening in white/washing half the night" are quite good, but I really like the tightness of "unfrock, I'm blocked..." I think this poem takes a particular set of experiences to fully appreciate, but that's one of the reasons I really like it because it speaks (for me at least) to the unfamiliar. This is an intelligent poem with a conclusion in commentary - the kind of poetry I enjoy the most. Thanks for the thoughtful submission.

Interesting, informative and funny, there's a lot to like here. You certainly did distract yourself from the story, but I see you got the new chapter posted anyway. Great job, I enjoyed this,
Carol

Yes, I lost a day's work on the story with this one, but it seemed worth it and I would have had to do something for the P & P eventually. A change is as good as a holiday they say. Thanks for reviewing this.

-Nice artwork and presentation.
-Notes are appreciated.
-When I saw "Trappists,"
I couldn't help but think
about the jam they produce.
-I don't know if you get it
or not, but it specifically says
on the cap, made by Trappist Monks,
and it is very good!
-A very good poem about
all the habits!
-I like the meter, imagery,
rhyme, and creativity.
-I like the line about
wanting your "wicked habits back."
-Good luck in the contest.

You are quite welcome. Were you familiar with the jam the Trappists make? I am just curious.

reply by the author on 31-Mar-2019
No I dont think I have been trapped in their jam or for that matter jammed in their trap.

My, this is a lesson about habits now isn't it. Very humorous, yet helpful as far as letting us know about the reason for the different colors when we observe habits. Makes one wonder how the attire got the name of habits.
I would think pants would be much more comfortable. I find it difficult to work in my ankle length lounger. LOL Great poem Jim! Nancy:)

I think their general pace of life must be slower than the frenetic world around them, otherwise those habits would surely be inefficient. Many thanks for reviewing.

What, no long unpronounceable style names or impossibly tangled hidden rhymes? Just rhyming iambic verses, and some interesting notes; I have lain awake nights wondering what a misericord was... just kidding...excellent poem.

A great play on words and you created a clever and interesting poem, there's something about monks that makes me think of industrious God workers, jolly gardeners of our planet, Friar Tuck comes to mind, a fine write, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Thank you for this complimentary review with its six glorious stars. Tuck was in my mind when I wrote the Franciscan stanza. I do love playing around with words, both with their sounds and their meanings.

A very well-written poem. When we have bad habits that harm our soul and health it is easier to find unharminb habits to replace the bad habits and before you know the bad ones are distinguished .

What a wonderfully well metred and rhymed poem, Jim. You are the teacher and one can certainly see why with this fantastic poem. Colours do have meanings and even in clothing.

Superb poem and I wish you much luck with the CC (Contest Committee)
