One of my favorites as i unfortunately have been there and marveled at the dedication of fellow officers to one of their own. The lengths they go to to honor are beyond words. Best of luck in the voting with this worthy entry.

A wonderful tribute to the first responders of any emergency with this one Jan and a good choice for the 'Sorrow' topic. Tears shed then back to work tomorrow - that says it all.
cheers,
valda

Even though it is always a sad occasion, it's awesome how Police, Firefighters and Military turn out to pay homage to one of their own. There's a real sense of honour as well as sorrow. Your poem captured both; the honour and sorrow of the loss of a brother. The families left behind suffer so much ... hard to imagine the depth of their loss and grief.

Good luck!

'A-one'derful tribute to the brothers and sisters in blue. First responders mean they are first to face the danger, which means their sacrifice on our behalf makes them so special.

Your verse and picture accomplished that feeling - THANKS!

You really did a good job capturing the spirit of all our first responders. It is indeed a brotherhood.

I found the ending particularly poignant. They feel their loss, shed their tears and then it's back to work, not knowing who may be next. Sigh... Hugs, Lou

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
So very well written and it stirs up the sad emotions I get when I hear about this happening. "...their hearts sank..." says it so perfectly. The last line of any poem is very important and yours is spot on! Wishing you a win in the contest. Blessings, Cathy

EMTs, paramedics, fire fighting personnel and police officers.
They're all a part of a very dangerous profession yet they are sworn by a scared vow to ensure the peace and safety of the general public.
It's a thankless job, in many aspects, the reward coming from within the individual knowing they were able to save a life.
God bless 'em, everyone!

This is a wonderful tribute to fallen policemen in both words and artwork.
It is sad when an officer dies in the line of duty and they deserve thanks and honor for what they do.

Good luck and keep writing

The grimmest case I heard of was the hundreds of first responders who rushed to Chernobyl...and nearly all died...slightly more in number than the 9/11 responder casualties...excellent rhyming tribute.

I admire their bravery, always. I mourn their loss as well. I was unaware they are all called "brothers"--here in my town, police, firefighters and first responders come together to honor their fallen "brother or sister." A small point which does not detract from your poem honoring each of them.---Karenina
