What?! You posted dirty jokes, Ellijay?

This is a powerful poem and particularly taken with the jungle law stanza. That certainly does seem to be how it plays out.

The photograph is intriguing and particularly the no trespassing sign. That has quite profound significance.

As is your signature, an authentic Ellijay post.

Gloria

in a moment of extreme ennui I braided three old jokes into a story, but the less said about that the better...thanks for reading and reviewing my verses....

You've got to watch out for that ennui. Boredom is a much safer prospect.

reply by the author on 17-May-2019
I used ennui in a poem once and can't get over it...sounds like a hungry piglet at the trough..."On! Wee! On! Wee!"

Good job! You describe the current American culture drift, I'm afraid. People who go to church are frowned on, laughed at, and ignored by a budding secular mood. That's now. Dr. Turley says the pendulum has begun swinging in the other direction, toward traditions, both here and throughout Europe. The evidence is clear if you simply look at the political changes. Here, it started with Trump, but the secularists are not going down without a fight to the death. I'd be relieved to see them go away for good. :)

I wanted to refute the scientific atheist view, so I spent a lot of time
reading both sides, so to speak. Waste of time. I still do not know if it is a tree, a rope, a sail, or an elephant...as the little movie robot said, "need more input!" Still don't think it's all an accident...thanks for reading and reviewing.

Many times, when we've left God, we find we needed Him more than we thought. Thank goodness, He never leaves us.

He has a reason for everything, and we don't always know what it is, nor do we need to know.

Love quatrains, and an enjoyable read.

Scientists speculate a lot on the why of everything, and they always find a mundane, natural cause for everything--up to a point. Thanks very much for reading and reviewing.

A very well-written pondering poem about life and what makes us human tick, we belief most of the time we are in charge of our lives and no one can be higher than man, but there is a power above man's ability that cannot be explained when we experience His mighty power.

Thanks very much for reading my verses about a man who is having a crisis of faith. The world is full of agencies sowing doubt...

Keep the faith don't let the false prophets deceive, they're working for the 'other side.'

Always a pleasure to read your words and I loved the sentiments here, the rhymes and flow. Seeing our close friends die prepared us for what there is to come, unlike our preference in life, we just hope we are the last on the list!

Line four suggestion, take out the words in brackets. 'and (all the) great lovers I have known?'

A well composed poem, Red. We all just do the best we can with what we've got. Hedging the bet, some may go back to church. Some never left in the first place. Marilyn

I began to buy Bible translations(I even found a reprint of the 1611 KJV, and an old translation of Flavius Josephus) and historical books about the Christian era and though meaning well, blundered into a crisis of faith with my old-fashioned Baptist upbringing. I hope never to affect anyone's faith or beliefs, but my own experience leaks through my words. I have become a kind of deist, I guess, with a God too powerful for sacrifices, prayers or miracles...it is all going his way, always. Great wisdom there...never leave in the first place!

he jungle law is plain, survive.
It matters not how deep the flow
of blood we spill to stay alive
for fate has damned the weak and slow.
These words run deep in my soul....great job!

and get an answer I do not like...thanks very much for reading and reviewing...
