Hi Jaybird,

It is clear that you are proud of your son, as you should be. We hope our children will turn out good, and yours clearly has. Congratulations!

I enjoyed your repeating line at the end of each stanza. It reinforces your pride and your son's fine achievements.

Joy xx

Great poem on a parent's pride for his son. He knows his offsprings fame is only local...

He is not known both far and wide
just tops in our neighborhood

But to him, it's as good as it gets. Ordinary folks don't dream of global glory, but of reputation at school, at work, near home. For most, that's the main stage where life is played out, and it's enough.

This is a great tribute to your son. It's always pleasing to see our children grow up and get established in this world at a young age. Take care, my friend...Bill

Excellent. Your well deserved pride in your son comes through loud and clear. I hope your great relationship continues to this day. I had to comment, I graduated from high school in 1969! Hugh

Oh, I love reading your work. This is quite a tribute to your son and I love it that you are pulling out your poetic works from '69. Hope you continue with that from time to time. I am out of sixes. My regrets. We find solace in the pride of our children, grandchildren, the continuity of life. You have pointed that out remarkably well in this poem and it is wonderful. Best wishes!
Wendy

Isn't it wonderful to have a son who makes you proud! Your hopes that you had in 1969 were obviously well placed. After all these years, you can bask in the pride and joy of his being tops, not only in the neighborhood, but in life. Thank you for sharing.

I always love it when somebody writes a poem like this one: it shows how proud you are of your son.
Heartwarming and beautifully written.
Thanks for sharing.

1969 graduate? I was a 1971 alumni. I can go out on a limb here and opine your son had you...a loving Dad who lifted him up, took pride in his accomplishments...and to this very day love your successful C.P.A. with a fierce unapolgetic Father's heart...just as it should be!--Karenina

A son as accomplished as yours deserves an excellent poem
like the one you've posted here, written fifty years ago.
Excellent mono-rhymes and a fine tribute for your son.
I hope he's seen the poem.
Well done
Robert

In my opinion, while I applaud another poem from this gifted and prolific writer, this one suggests that a bit more attention is needed to even the rhyme more smoothly in the read. Reading the work aloud several times accomplishes this easily, as this writer is undoubtedly aware, especially since the uneven spots in this poem are rare in his writing...
