Thank you for sharing this beautiful poem. It is well-written and flows very smoothly without any forced rhyme. It is also a wonderful reminder of something too often forgotten.

What a wonderful poem Sandra and a poem of the month winner to boot.
Very well deserved, an effortless flow with terrific rhythm married with some unbelievable rhyming.

Absolutely beautiful. A wonderful tribute to those who have kept us free! Some not even old enough to barely call them yet a man, yet they took their seat on an drop zone plane and jumped as proud as any one of these,

Thank you so much, John, for reading my poem. Yes, women are increasingly showing how heroic they are, and yes, they have been doing much to help win the wars, all the wars. :)) Sandra xx

I'm sorry I didn't read this poem earlier...missed it. It is an excellent poem of remembrance to those who gave all or nearly lost all and are still affected by the horror of wars they endured. The fact it also mentions how those at home also suffered losing loved ones puts this poem over the top.

Thank you so very much, my friend, for all those stars, but most of all, for this amazing review. I was just drinking my final cup of coffee before leaving to fly out to Spain when I thought I'd just have another quick look in FS, I'm so pleased I did. Thank you! :)) Sandra xxx

Sandra: you touched on many points with the vets. Some
die on the battlefield and others come home with PTSD.
I like the photo and the salute to the vets. My Father was
a military police and a chaplain. He loved saying prayers
and being there for the guys. We can remember great guys
by placing flags and flowers on gravesites. We can also send
cards to the vets living. Good awareness, Sandra. flylikeaneagle

Thank you for another lovely review, my friend. I imagine your father heard and saw some heartbreaking scenes, but how nice of him to have been there for all those men. Yes, we can remember them in ways that are simple but mean a lot. Thanks again. :)) Sandra xx

A very poignant poem that pays tribute to the thousands of young people who have sacrificed their lives of us. Nothing can ever replace what they have done. We should always honour those who have returned and make sure they are always taken care of, if needed. You do have a lovely touch. Enjoyed reading your poem.

Your poem touches on one of the most important aspects of war, and that is how the returning soldier copes with every day life after what they've seen and experienced in battle. Neither the returning soldier nor their loved ones were properly equipped to deal with the changes in a young man's personality after being involved in war, and I appreciate your poem for pointing those things out. I found one thing, which wasn't enough to lower the rating, that I thought was a case of using the word "their" more than it was necessary:

"...still lived the(ir) war inside their nighttime dreams"

I think you can still get your point across by saying "still lived the war inside their nighttime dreams" rather than using the word "their" twice. Just a thought!

Great job!

What a timely tribute with our just having remembered D-Day! I admired your eye-catching, poppies' image and all your rhymed couplets. Here's to all of those who gave so much so that our world could be freer and more peaceful- Joan

Amen to that, Joan. I think those lads were amazing, I just don't know if our young men would be the same, they are brought up so differently today. Not that I'd like to find out!! Thank you so much for your lovely review, Joan, I really appreciate it. - Sandra xx

I have a 42-year-old, bachelor son and would not want to find out either! Peace- Joan
