Thank you so much for sharing your astute perceptions with us as you volunteer with the elderly and dying. Kudos on that!!! Your verse is very well written and gives your reader the emotional tug and awareness that maybe we have missed. Well done J... :)

"Oceans and lakes are parts of our dreams ... As urine runs down our tattered seams." That line brought tears.

I am so glad you ended your remembrances with the positive note!

I enjoyed the read.

Best of luck in the Faith Poetry Contest contest.

This is a great entry for the faith poetry contest. Your entry is unique in how you didn't really approach the subject matter of faith until the end. Instead you mentioned all of the nuances of life and how these experiences lead us to the point of faith in the end. Well written. Great job and thank you for sharing.

I think this is a good entry for the Faith Poetry contest.
This verse tells of us whiling away our lives.
Well done and I wish you lots of luck with the contest.

I see so much of these while working at a nursing home. Some residents voice some of the thoughts you mention in your poem also. Aging is very difficult, both physically and emotionally. This poem is beautifully written, with just the slightest touch of humor. Best of luck in the contest!

Therese, then you are truly a gifted person who sees life through the lens of your heart.

What a kind thing to say! Thank you very much.

I just read your note on your page- you are a hospice worker. That takes a special person. And sitting with your sister-in-law is so selfless. You probably see and hear some of what I do in a day!

reply by the author on 21-Jan-2020
Therese I believe that it is you who are gifted to do the work that you do to make a difference in the lives who have less sand in the hour glass than they once had.

    You write beautifully.

Did you read my poem Counting Cars?

Therese, my ears swelled with tears with this last stanza:
There is no dearer job than providing care
But before you try it, please be aware
When you truly love them for who they are
Each soul leaving its body leaves us with a scar

    OUTSTANDING!!!!!

Thank you. That?s why it is so hard when I read about nursing home abuse. We truly love our residents. Even the one that told me the other day she didn?t think she should be my friend anymore since she found out I?m a porn star!

reply by Therese Caron on 21-Jan-2020
    P.S. I am not a porn star.

This poem is so well written and has such a unique view on the topic that I couldn't help but love it. It's so real and makes one think and I love that about poems.

I really like this part :"We live, we grow, we stumble, we fumble,
Knowing full well, at the very end,
just one step away ...
a new life will begin" and i think represents the circle of life. Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest

This was something else entirely! I am 25 and I do not think I can even begin to imagine how life must be at that age. You seem to be in good spirits though as you are still writing and on point with your words! Live long and live healthy! Cheers

This poem captures all the aspects of end of like woes. I'm glad you avoided pathos and liked the hope kindled in the last line. The ending made the poem. I like your rhymes
